In March 2020, the Trump administration unveiled Title 42, a new rule allowing DHS to turn away some asylum seekers for the sake of COVID prevention.
On Friday, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas announced the Biden administration’s intention to rescind Trump’s rule. Two months earlier, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., had signed an open letter urging the Biden administration to scrap the rule. On Wednesday, she missed her big photo op.
After the announcement, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott sent a message to the Biden administration… and to the Democrats in Congress. He bused illegal immigrants from Texas to Washington, D.C.

“By busing migrants to Washington, D.C., the Biden Administration will be able to more immediately meet the needs of the people they are allowing to cross our border,” Abbott said in a statement Wednesday.
“As the federal government continues to turn a blind eye to the border crisis, the State of Texas will remain steadfast in our efforts to fill in the gaps and keep Texans safe.”
Abbott’s office said that one bus dropped off the migrants between the Capitol and Union Station. The office also reported that a second bus was on the way.

“AOC missed a photo op,” tweeted radio host Dana Loesch, referring to photos of the bus.
It was a reference to 2018, when Ocasio-Cortez — then a mere candidate for Congress — visited the southern border for a photo op.
She later went viral in photos of herself crying near a road that leads to a detention facility.

Continuing the theatrics, Ocasio-Cortez also drew attention for herself by later crying on the House floor. She had just abstained from a vote on whether to continue funding Israel’s Iron Dome, a defense system that protects civilians from rockets fired at population centers by radical Islamic terrorists.
Ocasio-Cortez has yet to speak publicly about Abbott’s bus, but she has commented on Texas politics in the past.
In February, she posted a video of herself visiting Texas, along with a caption about one of the state’s senators.
