It’s not enough for Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez that the Democratic Party chairman called her “the future of our party”; AOC wants to control every detail of the present, too—including kicking out lifelong, dyed-in-the-wool Democrats who aren’t radical enough for her tastes.
The Bronx socialist announced she wants to start a major purge of her party by dumping anybody who doesn’t pass her ideological purity test—starting with its frontrunner for president.
When the reporter asked AOC, who has endorsed fellow socialist Bernie Sanders for president, about Joe Biden becoming president, she lost it.
“Oh God!” she spat out.
AOC seemed to complain that America isn’t as “progressive” as Europe, where socialist parties regularly hold the majority of national parliaments.
“In any other country, Joe Biden and I would not be in the same party,” she said. “But in America, we are.”
In the tight-lipped political world of Washington, D.C., disavowing a party leader is the political equivalent to a spit in the face.
Then she vented her frustration that Congress will “let anybody who the cat dragged in call themselves a progressive. There’s no standard.”
“Democrats can be too big of a tent,” she complained in an article published in New York Magazine this week, her temper running like the head of a badly drawn tap beer.
She wants to remake the Democratic Party into a more European socialist party, starting this election.
“This whole primary is going to be about the soul of the Democratic Party,” she said.
And AOC wants to save America’s soul from anyone who’s more conservative than Ilhan Omar.
She’s already launched a plan to take down anyone who gets in her way. Justice Democrats, the radical left-wig PAC that got the ex-bartender elected in 2018, is picking a fight in about a dozen congressional races.
The well-funded committee is backing raving leftists like Cortez and Omar against traditional liberals in the mold of Joe Cowley, the 10-term incumbent she ran out of office.
To boost their cause, Cortez has personally thrown her weight behind Justice Democrats’ plans to replace one of the few pro-life Democrats in national politics—Rep. Dan Lipinski, D-I.L.—with a radical leftist.
A pro-life Democrat? They have no place in her party—even though most Democrats oppose taxpayer-funded abortion and late-term abortion.
Cortez has tried to make hardcore leftism the new party line for a long, long time—and she’s only getting more determined as time goes on.
Just before Christmas, she took a shot at Mayor Pete Buttigieg, who groused about liberal “purity tests.”
Cortez said a purity test is another way of “having values. It’s called giving a damn.”
But AOC has no respect for anyone of any standing in her party who disagrees with her Marxist views. Buttigieg was a little-known, small-town mayor until he ran for president…but she’s taken on some of the party’s biggest names.
Last year, she took a strip off one of the softest spoken Democrats in politics—Senator Joe Lieberman.
The 2000 vice presidential nominee and 2004 presidential hopeful had the guts to say “I certainly hope she’s not the future” of the Democratic Party, “and I don’t believe she is.”
Cortez got “a lot of attention because she’s different” and “controversial,” he said, but the party needs to be more sensible if it hopes “to win some of those competitive swing districts that they took from Republicans.”
Her response? She disrespectfully tweeted, “New party, who dis?”

Cortez has gone so far than even Elizabeth Warren is telling her to back off.
When one of the hosts of “The View” asked Warren about AOC’s big-tent comment, the senator said that “Alexandria was talking about other political systems. There are a lot of political systems where it’s multiple parties, but we are in a two-party system.”
“In a two-party system, you better believe Democrats need a really big tent,” Warren told the fluffy daytime show. “We need to win.”
Maybe Warren, who is a “progressive” liberal herself, really wants a big tent. Maybe she just knows AOC is electoral poison in most of the country—and that if The Squad had its way, Bernie Sanders would get the nomination, anyway.
But polls show a party to the left of Elizabeth Warren has no chance of winning a national election in 2020.
Losing might be just fine with AOC. She wants a party that thinks like her, not one that wins.
