Harvard Law professor emeritus Alan Dershowitz said over the weekend that he has evidence that former President Barack Obama ordered an FBI investigation as a favor to political ally and controversial billionaire George Soros.
During an interview on Breitbart News editor Joel Pollak’s podcast on Monday, Dershowitz responded to a report that over 1,000 Department of Justice lawyers and prosecutors had asked Attorney General William Barr to step down.
President Donald Trump has faced criticism over tweets where he suggested he could order Barr and the Justice Department to conduct investigations if he desired.
That’s actually very common, Dershowitz said.
Trump is the only one honest about it.
The longtime Harvard Law chairman — and former mentor of Obama — says he has an FBI Form 302 that outlines orders within the Obama administration to conduct at least one politically motivated investigation. Dershowitz said more details will be revealed after a lawsuit is filed in federal court.
Form 302 is used by the FBI to summarize and record interviews with witnesses or suspects. It contains the notes FBI agents take during their interviews.
âThere was a lot of White House control of the Justice Department during the Kennedy administration and ⦠I donât think we saw very many liberal professors arguing against that,â Dershowitz told Breitbart News.
âI have some information as well about the Obama administration which will be disclosed in a lawsuit at some point — but Iâm not prepared to disclose it now — about how President Obama personally asked the FBI to investigate somebody on behalf of George Soros, who was a close ally of his,” he said.
âWeâve seen this kind of White House influence on the Justice Department virtually in every Justice Department,â Dershowitz continued. âThe difference this president is much more overt about it, he tweets about it. President Obama whispered to the Justice Department about it.â
âI donât think these 1,000 former Justice Department officials would pass the âshoe-on-the-other-footâ test,” he said. “Maybe some of them would, but a good many of them wouldnât.â
âLetâs be very clear about the constitutionality â the president could make a decision to really control the Justice Department. He shouldnât do it, and it hasnât been done since Thomas Jefferson. But Jefferson did do that. Weâve seen this throughout our history.â
âYou said that George Soros asked Barack Obama to have his Justice Department investigate somebody?â Pollack asked.
âThatâs going to come out in a lawsuit in the near future, yes,â Dershowitz confirmed. âThat is not unusual. People whisper to presidents all the time, and presidents whisper to Justice Departments all the time. Itâs common, and we shouldnât think that itâs unique to any particular president.â
âI have in my possession the actual 302 form which documents this issue, and it will â at the right time â come out, but Iâm not free to disclose it now because itâs on a case that has not yet been filed,â Dershowitz said.
