Trouble is brewing behind the scenes for Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif.
Her leadership as the House Finance Services Committee chairwoman has been under fire, according to insiders at Politico… under fire from her own party.
And it’s Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., who is leading the progressive revolt against Waters!
Political experts say that Ocasio-Cortez and company are upset with Waters’ moderate practices and how the Finance Services Committee is all too friendly toward longtime establishment Democrats, Politico writes.
“There’s sometimes been some tensions,” Ocasio-Cortez told Politico. “It’s always very tough.”
Ocasio-Cortez said she notices how the committee gives priority to pro-business conservative seats, and protects swing state members.
In other words, the far-left Democrats’ are being put in the back seat, behind pro-establishment members.
The backlash quietly started months ago.
Waters angered AOC in October when she was pushed to pass a bill to reauthorize the Import-Export Bank.
Ocasio-Cortez and allies wanted to make amendments to the bill regarding increased environmental protections.
But Waters doesn’t care about any of that.
She said no and slapped the amendments down.
AOC has been plotting her revenge ever since — and Waters has reason to worry.
Waters, affectionately referred to as “Auntie Maxine,” is like Ocasio-Cortez, in that she is a liberal icon, having cemented her star-studded status by pushing for President Donald Trump’s impeachment since the 2016 inauguration.
Ocasio-Cortez has a huge social media following, however — and she could turn that affection on its head in a moment’s notice.
