FBI agents may have made a major DNA breakthrough in the search near Nancy Guthrie’s Tucson home.
Agents have reportedly found a black glove that could provide crucial DNA evidence in the search for the 84-year-old mother of “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie, who was kidnapped from her residence 11 days ago.
The glove was found Wednesday along a roadside approximately 1.5 miles from Guthrie’s Catalina Foothills home, caught in desert shrubbery, according to the New York Post, which was present when FBI agents recovered the item as evidence.

The discovery could be a major breakthrough in the case. The glove appears similar to those worn by the masked suspect captured on surveillance footage released by the FBI on Tuesday..
“It’s either connected, and it’s legit; it’s noise, it’s just unrelated; or it’s misdirection,” Morgan Wright, CEO and founder of the National Center for Open and Unsolved Cases, told NewsNation. Wright said the glove is likely being analyzed at the FBI’s laboratory in Quantico, Virginia, where officials will search for DNA and other physical evidence.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department confirmed to local media that black gloves were discovered in Guthrie’s neighborhood, but declined to provide additional details.
New York Post reporter Georgia Worrell, who witnessed the recovery, said she and her photographer spotted the black object on the side of the road while FBI agents were searching the area.
“We were just in the right place at the right time,” Worrell said. “It had just been discarded on the side of the road.”
Worrell said they initially thought it might be a glove, but only confirmed it was after reviewing high-resolution photos. The item was bagged as evidence by FBI agents, she said.
FBI Director Patel told Fox News that agents are looking for multiple “persons of interest” in the case. The FBI’s elite Hostage Rescue Team has been deployed to Tucson.
Savannah Guthrie has shared surveillance images publicly and appealed for her mother’s safe return.
“We are at an hour of desperation, and we need your help,” Guthrie said in a recent statement.
The FBI is offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to Nancy Guthrie’s recovery and the arrest of those responsible.
