President Donald Trump is keeping Washington in suspense until tonight at 9 p.m. ET.
Trump will deliver a Thursday primetime address to the nation, his first formal speech to the country since his April 1 address on Iran. He has spent all week building anticipation.
His own staff says they don’t even know what Trump is going to talk about.
“I’d rather save it,” Trump hinted. “It’s really big news. It’s really, REALLY big news, and our country has to shape up. That’s what we’re going to be talking about Thursday.”
“It doesn’t get bigger. Because without free and fair elections, you don’t have a country. We’ll be discussing other things too. But it’s gonna be a very big announcement.”
When pressed for details, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said no one in the White House except a very select few know what Trump will talk about.
“As usual, anonymous sources are speculating about what President Trump will say during his speech on Thursday evening,” Leavitt said. “The truth is, nobody knows yet what President Trump will ultimately say.”
Reports have been swirling all week about what’s inside.
According to Townhall, part of the speech is expected to touch on “previously unreported alleged Chinese meddling in U.S. elections” — specifically, allegations that Beijing compromised U.S. voter data and that the CIA knew about it during Trump’s first term but never told him.
The Daily Wire reported that Trump will unveil newly declassified intelligence on foreign efforts to interfere in the 2020 presidential election, citing two White House officials.
Washington Reporter journalist Matthew Foldi reported Tuesday, citing a “well-placed source in Georgia,” that Trump may declare Democratic Sens. Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock’s 2021 elections “illegitimate because of fraud.”
One thing is certain: The SAVE America Act, Trump’s top legislative priority, has been included in all the rumors. Trump has tied the speech directly to his demand that the Senate pass voter ID and proof-of-citizenship legislation.
An update on the ongoing war with Iran is also expected.
Trump personally invited his Cabinet to attend, including the heads of the CIA, FBI, Office of the Director of National Intelligence, and Department of Homeland Security.
ABC News, CBS News, NBC News, Fox News, Fox Business, and C-SPAN are expected to carry the address. CNN and MS-NOW have not confirmed air time. Earlier this week, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez publicly demanded networks censor the speech, calling it an “ethical obligation” not to platform what she claimed would be “lies about our elections.”
But the truth is, no one actually know what Trump will say… until he says it.
The speech airs Thursday night at 9 p.m. ET.
