A Pennsylvania woman has been charged with endangering her 11-month-old son by restricting him to a vegan diet of fruits and nuts.
State police say 30-year-old Elizabeth Hawk, of Farmington, became “obsessed” with the vegan diet, which prompted her estranged husband to contact Fayette County child welfare workers.
A police complaint says the baby developed a rash “so bad that the child was scratching his skin off.” Hawk allegedly refused to use a cream to treat the rash.
Online court records don’t list an attorney for Hawk and she doesn’t have a listed phone. She’s been mailed a summons for the child endangerment charge and faces a preliminary hearing Nov. 14.
Police say doctors determined in August that the baby is developmentally disabled and can’t crawl because he’s malnourished.

Which as an Oriental Medicine doctor vegans and vegetarians hate me because they are killing themselves with severe osteoporosis and actually suffer heart attacks at same rate as we others. Red meat gets calcium to the bones; nothing else does! Milk products are toxic and the calcium is non-absorbable as well. God gave us both protein via animals and vegetables to enable their function and this is simple chemistry. Yin and Yang = balance and not eating in balance means the body will never be very strong or will survive for very long. To do this to a baby shows how her diet affected her brain! Why did husband allow this to go on for more than 1-2 months is beyond me. Poor baby may not be able to catch up physically and mentally for a few years, but could be restored to normal with a normal diet. They are not “saving the planet” as they preach because the soil needs clean and non-containing drugs in manure for a good agricultural set up and that requires animals to help the veggies grow and be worthwhile in our diet. Organics are not always organics either as many false labels coming out now, and the government says the growers can use up to at least 6% non-organic material in their soil, and if the organic land is near Monsanto, the wind can blow over the toxic Monsanto “Raid” ingredients and contaminate the organic land. We are living in an era of brainless people!
The woman doesn’t know that a vegan diet, is more than just fruits and nuts. Feeding a baby healthy foods is good, but it has to be properly balanced.
She should be breast feeding.
Exactly but even her milk is not enough if she is a practicing vegan because it will not contain the needed nutrients from lack of a balanced diet – flesh and veggies!
