Marjorie Taylor Greene comes clean on shock retirement

Outgoing Republican Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, who shocked Capitol Hill in late November when she announced she would retire at the end of this year, opened up about her surprising departure in a disturbing interview with “60 Minutes” that aired yesterday.

During her sit-down with CBS News’s Lesley Stahl, Greene said that the reason she decided to retire was due to “several direct death threats” on her son after President Donald Trump publicly called her a “traitor.”

Greene announced on Nov. 21, just one week after Trump confirmed he would no longer support her for reelection, that she would be resigning from her deep red House seat effective Jan. 5, 2026.

“After President Trump called me a traitor, I got a pipe bomb threat on my house. And then I got several direct death threats on my son,” Greene said.

Greene has two sons, ages 22 and 26. Greene also posted on Nov. 15 X , in which she claimed there were a “hot bed of threats against [her] being fueled and egged on” by Trump.

The post did not specifically mention death threats on her son or a pipe bomb threat. Take a look —

I am now being contacted by private security firms with warnings for my safety as a hot bed of threats against me are being fueled and egged on by the most powerful man in the world.

The man I supported and helped get elected.

Aggressive rhetoric attacking me has historically…

Greene also said in the interview the “subject line for the direct death threats” on her son was “Marjorie Traitor Greene,” a nickname Trump allegedly gave her Nov. 16 after being pressed by a reporter about Greene’s X post from a day earlier.

Greene claimed the death threats were “directly fueled by President Trump.” She also claimed she told both Trump and Vice President JD Vance about the alleged threats, sending them directly to both men.

“JD Vance replied back to me, ‘We’ll look into it,’” Greene said.

“I got response from President Trump that I will keep private, but it wasn’t very nice.”

When asked by Stahl to give a “hint” of what Trump had said in response to her, Greene simply stated his reply was “extremely unkind,” without providing any additional details.

Take a listen —

The major rift between Greene and Trump began escalating over the past few weeks.

Greene has pushed back on the Trump administration multiple times over the past few months, specifically blasting the administration’s handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files and Trump’s decision to meet the Syrian president, a former al-Qaeda commander, on the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Marine Corps.

In a blistering interview discussing the recent government shutdown with The Washington Post, Greene blamed sexism for her resignation. She said that “a lot of” male Republicans in Congress are “weak” and intimidated by “strong Republican women.”

“So they always try to marginalize the strong Republican women that actually want to do something and actually want to achieve.”
