Man kills his mom 2 days after finishing 30-year murder sentence

A man pleaded guilty on Wednesday to killing his mother two days after he completed a 30-year prison sentence for killing a neighbor.

Steven Pratt pleaded guilty to manslaughter for killing Gwendolyn Pratt, 64, at their Atlantic City home in October 2014. An autopsy found that she died from massive blunt-force head injuries.

Pratt was 15 when he shot and killed his next-door neighbor Michael Anderson in an apartment building in 1984. He was tried as an adult and was convicted of murder in 1986.

According to court records, Pratt and Anderson argued after Pratt and some of his friends refused to leave an apartment hallway where they were noisily hanging out. Pratt went back to Anderson’s apartment with a lead pipe, but Anderson took the pipe away from Pratt and bloodied his face, the records show.

Pratt then returned with a borrowed handgun and shot Anderson in the face and shoulder, the court records show. Anderson, who Pratt said acted like a father to him, died days after the shooting.

Pratt told a judge through tears after killing his mother that he was guilty and didn’t want a trial.

Pratt, 47, must serve 85 percent of a 25-year prison sentence before he’ll be eligible for parole.

You say he is “mentally ill”.
By that statement, you are saying he should not
      be punished for his crime.
You can’t have it both ways.
Either he is a savage with no respect for the lives
of those who tried to mentor him, or he is sick
and should be treated as such.
      I believe in the former.
EXECUTE HIM BEFORE HE KILLS AGAIN.
And don’t let his phony tears get in the way!!!

He should be terminated as a result of killing two people. We kill a rabid dog if it mauls someone. So why not terminate this mad dog and end his murderous streak?

In China, capital crimes are punished by one-man firing squad. The cost of the bullet is billed to the NOK. In this case, there is none to bill.

I have realized, many years ago, that people who spend many years in prison are so used to it that they cannot function on the outside and so they commit another crime just to get back in. It’s all very simple. Unless the death penalty is active, many long-time prisoners will act this way upon being released.

Fifi, Your ‘reasoning’ is only Half of the Equation. But is Still the ultimate . When a long=term prisoner is released Back into society…They are Generally Unequipped to Deal with The Society As it Is.. ( Sometimes ten–twenty years have brought about So much Change that even the ‘ Never Locked away.” Can`t seem to adjust. Add to The Fact that Most Of the Released Do not Have Any Family out here in this Cruel world who can or will Help them thru the transition. No One really Willing to Hire them..( And if Hired at all, The pay is so inadequate it is difficult to barely survive on..or not at all. ) Then.. add to All of these “Reasons Why” They Wind up Back behind Bars… They Are More than Likely, Treated As Outcasts And Not to be Trusted. No one who Has been Locked away from normal society..Wants to Return to Any lockup. But , Is an alternative to Starvation on the Streets ! OR Feeling Backed up in a corner..and resorting to Stealing To EAT. Yes, , This all adds up to being a Great Problem That Presents Very little Answers . And , YES, There are some People out here who Understand This Need has to be addressed.. And are working very hard Towards That Aim. But There is Not Enough Facilities Or Assistance Being offered To these few who are Willing..to Sustain. Remember ! There is Always More than one road to Logic. .if you Look for It.

This guy has killed two people. It’s obvious his 30-year prison sentence didn’t teach him anything. This time he should be sentenced to life without parole. Law-abiding citizens shouldn’t have to put up with known murderers be freed.

why was he released in the first place?. he was convicted of murder. the people that turned him out of prison should be held responsible.

Is it more humane to put a person in jail for a lifetime or give them a quick trial and execution? I believe in culling the herd of pedophiles, rapist and murderers. Besides the obvious benefits to society ( ie. the expenses incurred to our legal and prison systems ) there is an added benefit for family and loved one’s. The right to justice and closure. Something our present legal system is very weak on.

The problem, though, is that sometimes objectively innocent folks are wrongly charged and convicted of murder. If they are not executed, at least there is a chance in the future that some evidence will come to light, that will exonerate them. If people are wrongly put to death though, then there’s not chance of that, and the original injustice has been compounded.
