When President Donald Trump took office, Canada’s lefty government famously declared itself an illegal immigration haven, painting the nation as kinder, gentler and more open than the United States.
But Canadians have had enough!
“To those fleeing persecution, terror & war, Canadians will welcome you, regardless of your faith,” Prime Minister Justin Trudeau – a darling of the left in both Canada and the United States – declared on Twitter after Trump’s executive order crackdown. “Diversity is our strength.”
Well, it was one thing to make these high-handed announcements.
It’s quite another to have to live with the consequences of them, as Canadian voters are quickly learning.
A new report finds the nation is suddenly and quickly taking a hard turn to the right as Trudeau’s relaxed borders have led to a flood of illegal immigrants from Mexico, Africa and the Middle East.
Many of them were in the United States — most illegally — but ran north when they heard Trudeau would welcome them.
But Reuters says its new poll finds 48 percent of Canadians want to deport the illegals, and it’s stunning where they think the immigrants should be sent.
Not back to their home countries… but to the United States!
Seems like Canadians love open borders and “free” healthcare for illegal immigrants — but only when Americans have to pay for it!
Right now, however, it’s Canada getting the bill. Another set of new numbers shows how record numbers of immigrants, including many illegals, are rushing north.

And they’re not exactly being welcomed with open arms by Canadian officials, as Trudeau promised.
In the first two months of 2017, the Canada Border Services Agency detained more Mexicans than they did in all of 2016.
As of March 9, they’ve picked up 444 – compared to 410 in 2016 and 351 in 2015, according to the CBC.
They’ve also seen a surge in illegal entries from African and Middle Eastern immigrations, many of whom had valid U.S. travel visas but decided to head north instead.
It’s likely many were hoping to overstay their visas in the United States to take advantage of once-lax American immigration enforcement.
“There’s no question what’s driving them,” Paul Caulford of the Canadian Centre for Refugee and Immigrant Healthcare told Public Radio International last month. “Virtually every person who’s crossed, from pregnant women in the back of trucks to those shepherding their children to safety, have said to us that the United States is no longer a safe country for them to be in.”
Osgoode Hall Law School professor Sean Rehaag agreed.
“The general climate in the U.S. under the Trump administration makes certain group of people feel not welcomed there,” he told the Toronto Star. “It is not surprising [illegal immigrants] are coming to Canada to make claims.”
That’s a shocking turn of events.
Less than two months ago, Trudeau’s office boasted that they could teach Trump a thing or two about immigration.
“The prime minister is looking forward to discussing the success of Canada’s immigration and refugee policies with the president when they next speak,” his office told the New York Times in January.
Now, it’s the other way around.
If Trudeau were as smart as the leftists make him out to be, he might want to ask Trump about the success of American immigration and refugee policies.
