A U.S. Secret Service agent assigned to Vice President JD Vance’s protective detail has been suspended after an undercover video was released that showed him leaking sensitive security information to a date.
The agent was recorded on a hidden camera by the conservative group O’Keefe Media Group. In it, the agent allegedly provides the undercover journalist with sensitive security details including protective formations, shift schedules, travel plans, and real-time locations of the vice president.
The Secret Service confirmed the incident and announced it has suspended Escotto’s security clearance.
“The U.S. Secret Service has no tolerance for any behavior that could potentially compromise the safety, privacy or trust of our protectees. This incident is under investigation and the employee involved has been placed on administrative leave with his clearance suspended and access to agency facilities and systems revoked,” Secret Service Deputy Director Matthew Quinn said in a statement.
O’Keefe said that Escotto met the undercover journalist on the dating app Tinder in October 2025.
In the hidden camera footage, Escotto disclosed advance security procedures, revealed Vance’s future travel plan, described how the vice president is physically protected, detailed multiple daily shift changes, and sent images from Air Force Two while onboard with the vice president.
“Tomas Escotto, a current U.S. Secret Service agent on Vice President JD Vance’s protective detail, was recorded on hidden camera providing an undercover journalist with sensitive security information, including protective formations, shift schedules, travel plans, & real-time locations,” O’Keefe reported.
Escotto a Biden administration holdover who has been with the Secret Service for five years, also expressed anti-Trump political views in the recordings. He stated that he voted for Joe Biden and said “I hate that [ICE] sh*t.” He also described aspects of his assignment, including protecting Vance’s children, as “babysitting.”
O’Keefe said his team alerted the Secret Service to the story a full week before releasing it.
“While the safety of the Vice President and his family was always our top priority, what OMG uncovered raises serious questions about operational security, protocol compliance, and oversight within the U.S. Secret Service,” the organization stated. “Our team coordinated with the U.S. Secret Service ahead of publication, redacted sensitive operational details at their request.”

The Secret Service issued an apology to the Vance family and announced agency-wide retraining program.
“The U.S. Secret Service has a 160-year-old tradition of discretion that sets this agency apart, and we have no tolerance for employees who fail to meet this standard. The U.S. Secret Service deeply apologizes to the Vance family for this violation of their trust and privacy,” Quinn said in the statement. “The faith our protectees place in this agency is not something the U.S. Secret Service takes lightly, and we are committed to taking the necessary actions to ensure that a similar breach of standards does not occur again.”
