On Sunday, leading Republican candidate Larry Elder held press conference to prepare for California’s recall election — and surprised supporters when he appeared onstage with Rose McGowan, an actress and left-wing activist.
McGowan, 48, became a household name after her role in the movie Scream, and she later ventured into activism for liberal causes like same-sex marriage. In 2017 she accused the film producer Harvey Weinstein of sexual assault and became a figurehead for the #MeToo movement.
Now, she’s endorsing a Republican. One Twitter user posted a picture of the press conference and joked, “Imagine showing this to someone in 2015.”
McGowan is clearly pivoting away from the Democrats. On the stage, she accused Hollywood liberals of enabling Weinstein and offered an endorsement of Elder.
“Do I agree with him on all points? No,” McGowan said. “So what? He is the better candidate. He is the better man.”
She claims not to be a Democrat anymore, Fox LA reported.

McGowan also slammed Jennifer Siebel Newsom, the wife of Democratic candidate Gov. Gavin Newsom. She accused Siebel Newsom of infiltrating a support group for Weinstein’s victims and persuading them to remain silent.
As evidence, she tweeted screenshots of email correspondence with Siebel Newsom. However, critics note these emails only show Siebel Newsom’s attempt to contact the group, not an attempt to silence anyone.
Siebel Newsom’s spokesperson has dismissed McGowan’s allegations as a “complete fabrication.” Gov. Newsom himself called McGowan’s claim a “last-minute classic hit piece,” The Associated Press reported.
McGowan has also attacked other Democrats in addition to Newsom. She has become active on Twitter, where she constantly condemns former State Secretary Hillary Clinton. She’s also been sharing articles by Breitbart, a conservative news outlet. She shared a Breitbart article recently during one of her rampages against the Clintons.

However, she launches into deranged rants against Republicans, too. Early Monday morning, she criticized the conservatives at Fox News for allegedly misrepresenting her views on race relations.
During the speech, Elder, a Black conservative, spoke about dealing with double standards, and McGowan agreed.
“They want to hear that the more we micro-label each other, the better we’ll be,” McGowan said, accusing cynical politicians of exploiting racial divisions. “The reality is, today, I challenge this state, I challenge these voters, I challenge the media, to back up. Be human first, vote for humanity.”
Last week, Elder was touring homeless encampments in LA. Then, a bicyclist in a gorilla mask pelted him with an egg and tried to punch one of Elder’s associates.
The incident lit up social media. According to some Elder supporters, the liberal media refused to call the attack racist simply because Elder is a conservative.
If Elder was a Democrat, then “it would have been a major story,” he said.

On the ballot for California’s recall election, the voters will answer two questions: whether Newsom should be recalled and, if so, what candidate should replace him.
Newsom’s poll numbers have remained surprisingly low — because of liberal apathy toward an off-year election and bureaucratic oversights by his campaign.
Plus, California has a recent history of recall elections. In 2003, former Gov. Gray Davis was recalled and replaced with Arnold Schwarzenegger, a Republican.
However, California has trended Democratic since 2003, and most polls are showing a likely victory for Newsom.
The election will be on Tuesday, Sept. 14.
