Lara Trump, the newly elected co-chair of the Republican National Committee, is already making waves at the top of the party.
In a typical Trump style, Lara made a blunt admission: The GOP has been outmaneuvered by Democrats on electoral strategy.
She is proposing controversial proposals like implementing “legal ballot harvesting” to catch up.
“We’ve been playing checkers, and the Democrats have been playing chess,” Trump told the Washington Examiner. She said that Republicans desperately need to get more sophisticated in their voting efforts.
Among her suggested remedies is the RNC engaging in coordinated ballot collection efforts – a practice critics deride as the long-attacked “ballot harvesting” that Republicans warned could lead to mass voter fraud.
“We need to be doing legal ballot harvesting – something that has never been done by the RNC, but I can promise you will be a huge part of what we’re planning to do,” Trump declared.
Her push for the RNC to directly gather mail-in ballots marks a stark reversal from her father-in-law Donald Trump’s condemnations of mail voting as corrupt and vulnerable during his presidency.
Lara Trump also stressed fortifying Election Day operations by deploying “trained poll watchers and lawyers” nationwide to independently monitor ballot counts – and said the RNC aims to challenge and dispute unfavorable results.
Her stated goal will be to “restore” public trust in electoral integrity that was shaken after the 2020 election.
“We have to ensure that, when people go vote, they feel like their vote counts, that they are inspired to go vote. We can never allow what happened in 2020 and the questions surrounding that election to ever happen again,” she told Fox News.
Lara Trump also promised greater monetary investment to boost the RNC’s electoral capabilities.
“Every single dollar donated [will] go to making sure we win on Election Day – at the top of the ballot and down,” Lara Trump vowed, implying funds will be better used to aid Republican candidates.
The provocative comments come as Trump launches a children’s book preaching perseverance — a quality she attributed to Donald Trump’s defiant 2024 campaign despite his mounting legal woes.
“Never giving up is such a, I mean, it’s almost a platform for my father-in-law at this point,” she said of the book’s message.
Whether Trump’s controversial ideas gain traction within the RNC remains to be seen. But her brash pledges to ramp up Republican voting operations and flood the zone with poll monitors are sure to shake things up at the highest level of the Republican Party.
