The White House’s most public face stepped away from the podium to welcome a new member of her family this week.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announced Thursday that she gave birth to a healthy baby girl on May 1.
Leavitt later shared a photo on social media of her newborn daughter in their pink and yellow nursery.
“On May 1st, Viviana aka ‘Vivi’ joined our family, and our hearts instantly exploded with love,” Leavitt wrote on X. “She is perfect and healthy, and her big brother is joyfully adjusting to life with his new baby sister. We are enjoying every moment in our blissful newborn bubble.”
“Thank you to everyone who reached out with prayers during my pregnancy — I truly felt them throughout the entire experience. God is Good.”

Viviana is the second child for Leavitt, 28, and her husband Nicholas Riccio. Their son Niko was born in 2024. Leavitt is the youngest press secretary in White House history. She announced her pregnancy on Instagram on December 26, 2025, writing, “The greatest Christmas gift we could ever ask for — a baby girl coming in May 2026.”
With Leavitt on maternity leave, the White House has deployed a rotating cast of cabinet members to handle press briefings.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio stepped in Tuesday in what supporters are calling a national 2028 debut, and quickly went viral.
