Kamala Harris stunned by embarrassing news Monday (abandoned?!)

Former Vice President Kamala Harris’ post-White House career continues to unravel, now with some of her closest blue state allies suddenly abandoning her.

Just days after being granted elite security detail courtesy of Los Angeles city officials, Harris was informed over the weekend that she will no longer be the recipient of top-notch security after Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) officials denounced the move to provide her with security detail in the first place.

According to a report from The Los Angeles Times, the LAPD discontinued its protection for Harris after heavy criticism within its own ranks that officers were being diverted from crime suppression.

LAPD Metropolitan Division officers had been assisting the California Highway Patrol (CHP) in protecting Harris and were visible until Saturday morning outside her Brentwood home.

As many as 14 of LAPD’s elite Metro Division officers have been “pulled from working cases” and “crime suppression efforts” to provide security for Harris, local affiliate FOX 11 reported last Wednesday.

EXCLUSIVE: Sources tell @FOXLA as many as 14 of LAPD’s elite Metro officers are now assigned to protect former VP Kamala Harris 24/7 after President Trump revoked her Secret Service detail.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass had directed the LAPD to provide the security team to assist the CHP in the short term. According to sources, those Metro officers had to be drawn away from crime suppression work in the San Fernando Valley this week.

The department is “assisting the California Highway Patrol in providing protective services for former Vice President Kamala Harris until an alternate plan is established,” said Jennifer Forkish, L.A. police communications director, on Thursday. “This temporary coordinated effort is in place to ensure that there is no lapse in security.”

At the time, the CHP had not indicated how the LAPD’s move would alter its arrangement with the former Harris nor said how long it will continue.

The Los Angeles Police Protective League, the union that represents rank-and-file LAPD officers, criticized the move, which ultimately led to the security detail being yanked.

“Pulling police officers from protecting everyday Angelenos to protect a failed presidential candidate who also happens to be a multi-millionaire… and who can easily afford to pay for her own security, is nuts,” its board of directors said.

The statement continued, “Mayor Karen Bass should tell Governor Newsom that if he wants to curry favor with Ms. Harris and her donor base, then he should open up his own wallet because LA taxpayers should not be footing the bill for this ridiculousness.”

Newsom, who was required to sign off on CHP protection, never confirmed the arrangement to The Times, but a spokesperson for Newsom added: “The safety of our public officials should never be subject to erratic, vindictive political impulse.”

The on-again, off-again security detail for Harris comes on the heels of  President Donald Trump ending Harris’ Secret Service protection.

The move was announced early this month and the media went crazy, spinning it as retribution or retaliation against Harris.

However, Trump was restoring the standard for former vice presidents after the Biden administration secretly extended Harris’ coverage beyond normal policy.

Former vice presidents typically receive federal government protection for only six months after leaving office, while former presidents receive lifetime protection.

Harris’s six-month period expired in July, but the Biden administration quietly extended her protection to 18 months without public disclosure or explanation.

The secret extension would have kept Harris’s taxpayer-funded security in place until July 2026, with taxpayers covering her upcoming book tour for her memoir “107 Days” scheduled for release next month.

Then-President Joe Biden quietly signed a directive extending protection for Harris beyond the traditional six months right before leaving office. The extension was not made public until news of Trump’s decision broke.

Trump’s action returns Secret Service protection for former vice presidents to the standard policy that has applied to all previous vice presidents.

The extension of Harris’s protection was done without congressional authorization or changes to existing law governing post-office benefits for former officials.
