Her failed 2024 presidential campaign left the Democratic Party in financial ruin and her donors on the hook for her massive debt, but that hasn’t stopped former Vice President Kamala Harris from splurging on herself.
According to multiple reports, Harris and her husband Doug Emhoff recently purchased a swanky $8.15 million, 4,000-square-foot, four-bedroom, six-bathroom home in Point Dume, a neighborhood in Malibu, CA that’s home to A-list Hollywood actors and a number of Silicon Valley big wigs.
Harris’ new digs has long been one of the more desirable and expensive zip codes in California due to its large lots and the privacy it provides which has attracted Hollywood star actors over the years including Sean Penn, Gerard Butler and Julia Roberts.
Little Dume, which is known for having one of the most coveted surf breaks in all of California, is so exclusive it requires a special key that only a select group of Point Dume residents can possess, according to The New York Post.
While much of Malibu remains devastated from multiple wildfires, including the 2018 Woolsey Fire and the 2025 Palisades Fire, Point Dume is in relatively good shape compared to other parts of Malibu, according to real estate experts.
Harris was born and raised in Northern California, but has made LA her primary residence ever since she married Emhoff in 2014.
However, the big ticket purchase has raised eyebrows after multiple reports surfaced since Harris left politics that her 2024 presidential campaign hemorrhaged money from the Democratic Party and its donors.
Harris spent an unprecedented $1.5 billion during her failed 107-day campaign, forcing the Democratic National Committee to pay off $1.6 million of Harris’ debt last September.
The payout highlights the staggering presidential campaign debt Harris’ team left after their landslide defeat in November 2024. It’s reported that the Democratic Party’s total debt payout now stands at more than $20 million over a year after her election loss.

Harris’ campaign raised over $1 billion and had $118 million in the bank as of October 16, 2024. The campaign quickly burned through their cash and incurred tens of millions in debt during the final week of the election, according to reports from Politico.
The debt includes millions for celebrity appearances by performers including Beyonce, Katy Perry, Lizzo, Eminem, and Megan Thee Stallion.
Former DNC official Lindy Li disclosed after the election that the Democratic Party was about $18 or $20 million in debt following what she called the campaign’s “$1 billion disaster.”
“The truth is this is just an epic disaster,” Li told Fox News in November 2024.
“It’s incredible, and I raised millions of that. I have friends I have to be accountable to and explain what happened because I told them it was a margin-of-error race.”
Harris’ financial burden has left the Democratic Party in a very vulnerable position ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
But it appears she’s still living large — and comfortably.
A representative for Harris declined to comment on the new home purchase at the time of publication.
