Judge Judy joins 2020 Democratic campaign

Reality star Judge Judy is taking time away from the studio and joining the 2020 Democratic presidential campaign — but not as a candidate.

Judy Sheindlin, Judge Judy’s legal name, released a video endorsing Michael Bloomberg earlier this week.

“I like to say you can judge someone’s character by what they’ve done,” Sheindlin said in the 30-second campaign ad. “Mike Bloomberg has done amazing things and will be a truly great president.”

“No one comes close to Mike Bloomberg’s executive achievement, government experience, and impactful philanthropy,” she continued.

“His steady leadership will unite our country and bring us through these very challenging times.”

This isn’t the first endorsement Sheindlin has made for Bloomberg. In October, she raised eyebrows by penning an op-ed in support of Bloomberg… who hadn’t yet declared his candidacy.

“I have carefully stayed away from politics for 50 years, except to vote,” she wrote in her USA Today opinion piece. “But times have changed in our country, and I believe the moment has come for me to step out from behind the curtain.”

Bloomberg is using his immense personal wealth to flood television airwaves with campaign ads since entering the race in November. The New York City billionaire is declining donations, so he won’t meet fundraising requirements set by the Democratic National Committee to qualify for televised debates.

Despite this, he currently sits in fifth place at 5.6 percent in the Democratic presidential campaign, according to RealClearPolitics. According to the Bloomberg campaign, the former mayor is planning to win the nomination by surviving until the Mar. 3 Super Tuesday vote.
