President Joe Biden is having a rough week — and news released by the Republican Party on Tuesday made it even worse.
Biden’s polling numbers have crashed to nearly historic lows. Democratic infighting has stalled his unaffordable government-overhaul agenda… and threatened to destroy it.
It has gotten so bad that Biden himself has acknowledged frustrations on Saturday after frantic negotiations failed to produce a deal.
“Everybody’s frustrated, it’s part of being in government, being frustrated,” Biden told reporters before leaving the White House for a weekend stay at his home in Wilmington, Delaware.
Since then, things have only gotten worse.
As they prepare to retake control of Congress from the Democratic Party in the 2022 midterm, the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) reported raising a stunning $76.2 million during the first nine months of this year on Wednesday.
A Quinnipiac poll released Tuesday indicated that goal was within reach. In a generic choice nationwide, voters indicated they prefer a Republican Party candidate over a Democratic in the 2022 midterm by three points — an all-time high for the GOP.
Facing defeat in the midterm, Biden has rapidly scaled back his spending package. Now, the package contains only about half of what he promised his supporters.
The White House and its allies in Congress missed a self-imposed deadline last week, and they claim to be prepared for protracted negotiations. Biden said he would soon travel around the country to promote the legislation and he acknowledged concerns that the talk in Washington had become too focused on the trillions in new spending and taxes in the bill.
It’s a pivotal time for Biden and the party. Democrats are restless and fighting internally. With Republicans solidly opposed to Biden’s plan, the president is floundering.
The White House and the Congressional Democrats also are struggling with the nation’s borrowing limit. The U.S. risks defaulting on its obligations unless Congress raises the debt limit.
With the 2022 midterms looming, it just keeps getting worse for Biden.
