Hunter Biden just got devastating news Tuesday

In a significant development following his recent federal gun conviction, Hunter Biden, the troubled son of President Joe Biden, just got more devastating news — his license to practice law in Washington, D.C. suspended by the District of Columbia Court of Appeals.

This suspension, effective immediately, marks the latest consequence in a series of legal challenges faced by the younger Biden, who has flaunted the law for decades.

The court order, issued on Tuesday, comes in the wake of Hunter Biden’s conviction on three federal gun charges in mid-June 2024.

The charges stemmed from Biden’s purchase of a firearm in 2018, during which he illegally lied about his drug use on a federal form. The jury found him guilty of making false statements in the purchase of a gun, making false statements related to information required to be kept by a federally licensed gun dealer, and possession of a gun by a person who is an unlawful user of or addicted to a controlled substance.

The trial, which lasted only seven days, included emotional testimony from Biden’s ex-wife and former girlfriends about his struggles with drug addiction.

Prosecutors presented a mountain of evidence including text messages and references to Biden’s 2021 memoir “Beautiful Things” to establish his ongoing battle with substance abuse at the time of the illegal gun purchase.

While Biden faces a potential maximum sentence of 25 years in prison, legal experts note that as a first-time offender, he is unlikely to receive such a severe penalty. A sentencing date has not yet been set.

The D.C. Court of Appeals’ decision to suspend Biden’s law license was based on the indictment and jury verdict in his federal gun trial.

The court has also directed the D.C. Board on Professional Responsibility to “institute a formal proceeding to determine the nature of the offense and whether it involves moral turpitude.” This determination could have significant implications for Biden’s future ability to practice law in the District.

Under §11-2503 of the District of Columbia Code, a lawyer may be permanently disbarred if convicted of an offense involving moral turpitude.

Biden is expected to appeal his conviction, so any potential disbarment would not occur until he exhausts his appeals process.

In response to the conviction and subsequent license suspension, Biden’s legal team filed a motion on Monday seeking a new trial. They argue that the federal court in Delaware lacked jurisdiction to handle the case, indicating that the legal battle is far from over.

The suspension of Biden’s law license, which he has held since 2007, represents a significant professional setback. However, Hunter Biden has not been practicing law in recent years.

This case has attracted considerable attention not only due to its legal implications but also because of its potential political ramifications. The trial and conviction have thrust some of the Biden family’s personal struggles into the public spotlight, potentially affecting public perception of the President and his administration as the 2024 election approaches.

The D.C. Office of Disciplinary Counsel had previously stated that Hunter Biden’s offenses in the federal gun case amount to a “serious crime,” which constitutes grounds for automatic suspension under their rules. This suspension will remain in effect pending the outcome of the formal proceedings by the Board on Professional Responsibility.
