Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton made wild claims about former President Donald Trump’s potential actions if he were to win the 2024 presidential election over the weekend – and it will make your eyes roll.
Clinton implied that Trump would violently punish his opponents and journalists if he won the White House again — and went back to her old playbook, comparing Trump to authoritarian dictators like Russia’s Vladimir Putin.
Speaking with host Marc Elias on the Defending Democracy podcast, Clinton bashed Trump’s recent behavior, remarks, and his relationship with Putin.
She referenced a statement made by a former Australian prime minister, who described Trump as being “gaga” over Putin because the Russian leader does what Trump would like to do: “Kill his opposition, imprison his opposition, drive … journalists and others into exile, and rule without any check or balance.”
On Thursday, Trump backed U.S. aid to Ukraine in defense against Russia’s invasion and demanded American allies in Europe to do more to stop Putin.
He blamed the war on Democrats, specifically President Joe Biden’s weak leadership.
“ As everyone agrees, Ukrainian Survival and Strength should be much more important to Europe than to us, but it is also important to us! GET MOVING EUROPE!” he wrote on his Truth Social app.
The former secretary of state said people should be “very conscious” of how Trump perceives the world, noting that he “only sees strong men leaders” like Putin, China’s Xi Jinping, and North Korea’s Kim Jong-Un as role models.
Clinton claimed that Trump is modeling himself after these authoritarian figures and said by electing him, the United States would go down a similar path in world history.
Of course, Clinton has regularly claimed that Trump has colluded with Russia or acted on behalf of Putin’s interests – despite the investigation of special council Robert Mueller finding no such evidence.
Special Counsel John Durham released a report in May 2023 that found that the Department of Justice and the FBI should never have opened the Mueller investigation into the Trump campaign.
Durham’s report also found that the FBI had received “highly significant intelligence” from a trusted foreign source that Clinton’s campaign had created a plan to “vilify Trump by tying him to Vladimir Putin.”
