The top contender for the 2028 Democratic presidential nomination just made a chilling announcement to Trump supporters in his state: “You will be prosecuted.”
What’s more frightening yet, Newsom made the comments during his Fourth of July message for America’s 250th birthday.
Newsom stands at the center of multiple Trump administration investigations, including swirling questions over possible election fraud, and is sweating that federal officials will want to examine California’s ballots themselves.
On Independence Day he said anyone who defies King Newsom will go to jail.
“Let me speak directly to anyone considering helping Trump interfere with our election or our count,” said Newsom in a viral social media message posted on July 6. “If you violate California’s laws, if you interfere with our voters, tamper with our ballots, or meddle in our election, you will be prosecuted. It doesn’t matter who gave the order. That’s why I’m moving forward with new legislation that would make it a felony to seize ballots before the vote has been certified by state and county officials.”
President Trump has tried to break through Democratic stonewalling on the ways the Left steals elections, from mail-in ballots, to illegal voter registrations, to ballot harvesting and outright bribery.
“We will be the wall he (President Trump) cannot get past,” said Newsom in the video, which has now been viewed more than five million times on the social media platform X alone..
Newsom said no one in the state has the right to question his decisions, because “we believe that once an election is decided, the winner governs for everyone.” That is, if you elect Newsom, he makes the decisions with no appeal, worse than any tyranny ever dreamed up by King George.
Arresting people for obeying federal laws that might prevent socialist Democrats from stealing elections “is the architecture of American liberty,” Newsom claimed.
The much-investigated governor seems to be white-knuckling it through investigations that could land him in a penitentiary himself—a fact he alluded to while threatening to jail Trump supporters.
In an essay accompanying his Independence Day message, Newsom wrote, “On America’s 250th birthday, we need a declaration of election independence — a proclamation of freedom…from the threat of imprisonment for refusing to go along with Trump’s schemes.”
In the essay, Newsom promised to fight election accountability with “every lawyer, every law, every ounce of will.”
Republicans immediately highlighted Newsom’s remarks as a private admission of guilt.
To anyone considering helping President Trump interfere with our election or our count:
You will be prosecuted.

“The coverup begins,” said Trump administration special envoy Ric Grennell.
“Do you mean interfere with ‘noncitizen voting’?” asked Senator Mike Lee, R-Utah. “The SAVE America Act would put an end to that. Is that why you’re against it?”
Republican member of the California General Assembly Lisa Cusack pointed out that, by enacting a new felony law, Newsom would treat election investigations as a worse crime than intentionally infecting someone with HIV-AIDS, which is currently a misdemeanor under state law. “For tyrants, the only real crime is threatening their power,” she said.
Officials with the Golden State GOP defied Newsom to arrest them for the “crime” of assuring fair and secure elections. “We are planning on helping President Trump and the California Republican Party) straighten out California elections,” wrote the Monterey County (California) Republican Party. “You can find us at 414 Main Street, Salinas. Come get it.”
Others implied Newsom’s word amounted to a clown show.
Unfortunately, it’s nothing new for Sacramento’s man who would be king.

The Horn told you Newsom personally threatened to put President Trump in jail for three years for questioning the glacial pace of California elections—where state officials still have 7,054 votes left to count after the state primary election, held on June 2.
In a social media post on June 9, Newsom wrote that “politicians spreading election lies with the goal of illegally interfering with counting ballots” should spend “up to 3 years behind bars.”
“FAFO, Donald,” Newsom teased the president.
Newsom had signed California S.B. 73, which punishes ballot workers who let law enforcement see voter registration information without a warrant with three years in prison, a $1,000 fine, or both.
But Newsom may be whistling past the graveyard for several charges that could land him in jail—and that may explain why he sprang into action to stop another election fraud investigation earlier this year.
Trump says voter fraud should land people in prison.
Agreed. And let's start with the politicians spreading election lies with the goal of illegally interfering with counting ballots.
In California, I just signed a law making that punishable with up to 3 years behind bars.…

Democrats got a scare in March, when Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco, a Republican, ordered officials to examine 650,000 ballots from the 2025 special election on Proposition 50 for evidence of ballot-tampering. But the Democrat-dominated California Supreme Court shut down his probe in April.
Things only got worse, as Newsom learned a close associate Alexis Podesta wore a wire and recorded conversations during a federal investigation of the Newsom administration.
You might be tempted to think this is uniquely related to Gavin Newsom. After all, life has become so rotten in California’s one-party rule since Newsom took over that newly elected Republican Congressman James Gallagher and the state legislators who authored Assembly Joint Resolution 23 have offered a plan for the Golden State to split in two, with conservative counties seceding from Sacramento.
But it’s actually a coordinated effort by Democrats across the nation lashing out at the Trump administration for prying into their comfy voter fraud operation.
On the day after Minnesota Governor and 2024 Vice Presidential nominee Tim Walz wrote the day after Newsom’s address (and the day before Newsom posted his video online), “Every state deserves to administer its elections free from unlawful federal intrusion.”
Longtime political observers say Democrats are melting down over Trump administration investigations closing in on widespread election-stealing and welfare fraud in blue states.
“They’re starting to squirm before the release of declassified information regarding foreign involvement in the stealing of the 2020 election, and then whatever happens after that,” said Trump advisor and MAGA strategist Steve Bannon.
The Trump administration just made sure Democrats have even more to worry about.
Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon just announced the Justice Department will deploy observers during the upcoming primaries in six states to “specific problem hotspots in Arizona, in Massachusetts, Maine, Minnesota, New Hampshire, and Virginia.” The DOJ had no other choice “given the irregularities we’ve seen in their elections year after year,” Dhillon told NewsNation’s Katie Pavlich.
President Biden’s DOJ also sent monitors to these locations, Dhillon pointed out.
But she really worried them by saying this is a dry run for the 2026 midterm elections this November.
We @theJusticeDept are sending election monitors to specific “hotspots” across 6 states for the upcoming primary elections. Stay tuned for a further action from @CivilRights to safeguard the civil right to vote in the upcoming primaries, and November’s general election! pic.twitter.com/vMVUvPqyHp

“You’re going to see a much more expanded (list) than what I just said in the general election,” Dhillon promised.
She also warned state officials they could face prosecution if they allow non-citizens to vote.
As President Trump told Democratic socialists, “The game is on.” And he’s going to keep winning until you’re sick of winning. And that makes Gavin Newsom feel pretty sick.
