Fox News star gets unexpected new job

State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce, a former top Fox News star, has been nominated by President Donald Trump to serve as deputy representative to the United Nations.

Trump made the announcement on Saturday on social media saying:

“I am pleased to announce that I am nominating Tammy Bruce, a Great Patriot, Television Personality, and Bestselling Author, as our next Deputy Representative of the United States to the United Nations, with the rank of Ambassador,” Trump wrote in a post to Truth Social, adding that Bruce has been “serving with distinction” in her current role as State Department spokesperson and “will represent our Country brilliantly at the United Nations.”

Despite Trump’s nomination, it is unclear when she will take over the role and if her nomination will be confirmed by the Senate, as Trump’s nominee for UN ambassador, Mike Waltz, has yet to be confirmed by the Senate.

The current acting ambassador to the UN is Dorothy Shea, a career diplomat who was the deputy ambassador in 2024.

Before joining government, Bruce was a Fox News conservative contributor for more than 20 years, and became the host of “Get Tammy Bruce” in 2019, which aired on the network’s streaming service.

Trump initially tapped Bruce for her State Department role back in January, adding to his lengthy list of administration picks from the network.

Bruce has authored several books that are critical of liberals, including “Fear Itself: Exposing the Left’s Mind-Killing Agenda”.

In the past, Bruce had notably been a longtime Democrat and self-described liberal activist before making a hard pivot into conservative politics and eventually supporting Trump’s MAGA movement.

In her current role, Bruce has been one of the State Department’s most public figures in the first six months of Trump’s second term, including holding regular press briefings on the administration’s foreign policy.

As spokeswoman, Bruce has defended several recent US foreign policy decisions that the media has attacked the White House over, including Trump’s illegal immigration crackdown to sending military contractors to distribute aid in Gaza.

Thank you President Trump! So grateful for @POTUS's trust in nominating me as the Deputy Representative of the US at the UN. I've been honored to serve as @StateDept Spokesperson, and now I'm blessed that in the next few weeks my commitment to advancing America First leadership… pic.twitter.com/7f7tDZ9dl4
