FBI director James Comey has a warning for the United States — A mass migration of ISIS fighters is coming here, and it’s going to be bigger than ever.
“At some point there’s going to be a terrorist diaspora out of Syria like we’ve never seen before,” Comey said Wednesday at a cybersecurity conference in New York.
Without a change in the strategy against ISIS from President Barack Obama, hundreds of dangerous ISIS fighters will soon slip through the fingers of coalition forces — and they are going to flow primarily to Western Europe and the United States, the FBI chief warned.
“We saw the future of this threat in Brussels and Paris,” Comey said, adding that future attacks will be on “an order of magnitude greater.”
Comey came under fire recently for his handling of the investigation into Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s private email set-up.
Despite their disagreements, however, both liberal and conservative lawmakers have rarely doubted Comey’s commitment. “I do think that in all of government, he is a man of integrity and honesty,” Utah Rep. Jason Chaffetz said in June — which makes Comey’s warnings about ISIS’ spread that much more alarming.
