It’s politics at its absolute ugliest – which means politics as usual when Hillary Clinton is involved.
Newly revealed government documents show how the State Department tried to pull strings to help the Democratic presidential nominee when she was under investigation last year for mishandling classified information.
And they offered the FBI a classic quid-pro-quo arrangement (also known as a bribe) for its help.
According to new documents released by the FBI:
“[REDACTED] received a call from [REDACTED] of the International Operations Division (IOD) of the FBI, who ‘pressured’ him to change the classified email to unclassified. [REDACTED] indicated he had been contacted by PATRICK KENNEDY, Undersecretary of State, who had asked his assistance in altering the email’s classification in exchange for a ‘quid pro quo,'” the document said.
Republicans are livid.
House Speaker Paul Ryan called it a “cover-up” and demanded that Clinton’s classified access get pulled… a move that could DOOM her hopes of winning the presidency.
GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump called it “unbelievable” that the agencies were caught colluding “to make Hillary Clinton look less guilty, and look a lot better than she looks.”
The documents include summaries of contacts between the FBI and State Department that took place last year, when agents picked through Clinton’s email for evidence of classified data illegally stored on her basement server.
