“On the Holmes Front,” with Frank Holmes
The idea that most news networks in the age of Donald Trump are impartial reporters is long gone, but CNN has crossed from bias into outright advocacy, prodding the Democratic Party to riot, pack the Supreme Court, and change the make-up of our electorate in order to maintain their hold on power.
CNN legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin recently used a clever bit of reverse psychology while inciting the Democrats to win by any means necessary.

In a segment of CNN’s morning show New Day, Toobin said the Democrats should radically alter the U.S. form of government to get back at President Donald Trump… but they’re probably too “weak” and “afraid” to follow through.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has said “everything is on the table” if Donald Trump confirms Judge Amy Coney Barrett to replace the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
But Toobin said Schumer and the Democrats are too nice… and even made a Freudian reference to Schumer’s genitals.
“Democrats are great about talking big, but we’ll see if he has the…,” Toobin trailed off, sounding more like Chuck Schumer’s cousin, Amy Schumer, than an unbiased analyst. “If he and the other Democrats have the guts to do anything,” Toobin went on. “If they retake control of the Senate, will they really add the two seats on the Supreme Court?”
New Day host Alisyn Camerota asked, “If they’re in control, why wouldn’t they?”
Toobin — an expert lawyer who went to Harvard Law School with Elena Kagan — hit Schumer where it would hurt most.

“Because they’re weak,” Toobin said. “They’re wimps and they’re afraid.”
Toobin said Democrats need to “learn” to play dirty politics from Republicans.
In fact, Toobin sketched out a scorched-earth plan for the Democrats to follow if they win Congress and the White House in November.
In an article for The New Yorker magazine a few days earlier, Toobin listed “four major possibilities for retribution.”
“The first is the abolition of the filibuster,” which lets the minority party in the Senate slow down or stop a president from cramming legislation through Congress. Harry Reid abolished the filibuster for federal judges, and Mitch McConnell did the same for Supreme Court justices… but Toobin wants a bare-majority to get its way on everything.
“Second, statehood for the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, with two senators apiece,” he said. Four new Democratic senators would give the Senate a liberal majority for years to come.

“Third, Congress should pass a law expanding the number of lower-court federal judges,” so Democrats can pack the lower courts, which Trump has successfully filled with conservative constitutionalists under the existing rules.
“Finally, the greatest and most appropriate form of retribution,” Toobin wrote, is for the Democrats to “simply pass a law that creates two or three more seats on the Supreme Court.”
But “to play hardball” by changing the rules that our republic has lived by for generations “ is foreign to the current Senate Democrats,” Toobin claimed.
The problem is, Democrats had made all of these proposals before Toobin wrote his article.
Barack Obama proposed three of these four forms of “retribution” at Rep. John Lewis’ funeral in July.
But Toobin claimed that Democrats have to create civil unrest and make American cities ungovernable—like Republicans.

“In 2016, Al Gore said, ‘No street protests,’” Toobin said. He said that Al Gore’s lawyer David Boies—who was on CNN’s panel—saw “Republican forces massing against them, literally on the streets. There is a difference to how Democrats and Republicans go about these fights, and we’ll see if Democrats learn anything from Republicans here.”
But Al Gore — who ran for president in 2000, not 2016 — told Reuters that if he’d pushed for people to take to the street, it would have caused a “violent revolution.”
“Tearing the country apart, mobilizing partisans against one another in the streets,” Gore said, is “not a wise course for our country.”
And Democrats are hardly strangers to violent demonstrations or playing “hardball.”
Barack Obama’s administration illegally investigated and spied on the Trump campaign in 2016 based on a phony Russian dossier.
Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein offered to wear a wire to record President Trump, then used the (probably edited) tape to remove Trump from office under the 25th Amendment.

Rep. Adam Schiff doctored the transcript of a phone call Trump had with the president of Ukraine.
House Democrats impeached Trump based on a quid pro quo that never existed—and Nancy Pelosi is threatening impeachment again.
Democrats stood down while Antifa and Black Lives Matter did hundreds of millions of dollars in property damage, then blamed the violence on Trump supporters.
And some of the most extreme partisan politicos are rejoicing over the fact that President Trump and the first lady have caught the Wuhan virus.
The Democrats already play hardball. They just don’t play by the rules.
