Outspoken ESPN personality Stephen A. Smith is toying with taking his personality away from the world of sports to the world of politics.
Over the weekend, Smith appeared to at least entertain the idea of entering politics, saying the Democratic Party looks “pathetic.”
“I doubt I’ll ever run. It’s not me. I live a pretty good life, and I don’t want to ruin it by getting involved in politics,” Smith said during an episode of his podcast.
“But I got to tell y’all something: The Democratic Party looks so pathetic,” he added. “After this election, I might entertain one.”
Smith suggested mainstream Democrats are in a vulnerable position following former Vice President Kamala Harris’s loss to President Trump last fall, creating an opening for a political outsider to take over the party.
“How much would it take to beat y’all?” Smith asked. “And Trump can’t run again. He’s done.”
Smith, one of the most recognizable sports media personalities in the country, has not shied away from weighing in on politics in recent months and has teased running for political office one day.
In a recent poll, 2% of voters said they wanted to see Smith run for the Democratic nomination. While that may not sound like a big number, its former Vice President and the party’s 2024 nominee, Kamala Harris, was the only person in double digits.
