Furious Democratic lawmakers caused huge controversy after they disrupted the House’s legislative work on Wednesday, staging a sit-in on the House floor and refusing to leave until their demands were met.
The move exasperated Republican lawmakers hoping to get last minute work done.
A drained and dwindling group of anti-gun Democrats, some clutching blankets and toting pillows, carried their outrageous House floor hijacking past daybreak Thursday, disrupting the business of Congress with demands for even more gun-control votes.
Unyielding Republicans who control the chamber branded the move a childish publicity stunt and adjourned the chamber at around 3:15 a.m. until after the Fourth of July. By 7:30 a.m. Thursday — 20 hours after the protest commenced — around a dozen Democrats remained, including Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, gave speeches that mixed victory declarations with vows to never back down in their drive to curb gun rights.
Democrats say their sit-in on guns succeeded even though they did not get the votes they were seeking, while Republican leaders scolded rival lawmakers about proper behavior on the House floor.
In particular, leaders reminded lawmakers that they are barred from using electronic devices to display audio or video recordings of House proceedings or take pictures on the House floor.
Democrats openly flaunted those rules throughout a sit-in that lasted until early Thursday. Lawmakers transmitted proceedings though smart-phone video distributed on social media such as Periscope and Facebook, and many tweeted photos of themselves on the House floor. GOP leaders cut off House cameras as the sit-in began.
GOP leaders said the rules were based on the notion that images from the House floor “might be taken to carry the imprimatur of the House.”

A group of about three dozen Democrats led by Georgia Rep. John Lewis demanded a vote on measures to expand background checks and block gun purchases by some suspected terrorists in the aftermath of last week’s massacre in Orlando, Florida, that killed 49 people. It was the worst shooting in modern history.
“No bill, no break,” shouted Democrats, who demanded that House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., keep the House in session through its planned weeklong recess next week to debate and vote on gun legislation.
Republican leaders did not oblige.
After the disruption Wednesday, Rep. Ted Poe, R-Texas, tried to start the House’s work at noon. The customary prayer and pledge of allegiance went ahead, but Poe was again forced to recess the House when dozens of Democrats stood in the well of the House and refused to leave.
Rep. John Larson, D-Conn., said lawmakers were “calling for the simple dignity of a vote” despite four of those votes being held — and failing — on Monday night.
“Rise up Democrats, rise up Americans,” Larson said. “We will occupy this chamber.”
Some critics wonder if the move will backfire, though, if it’s conservative voters that rise up and contact their representative to denounce this, instead.

The major problem with this administration, IMHO, is that there is a very serious misapplication as well as misunderstanding of our constitution and Bill of Rights. It seems to me that they are trying to apply the American people’s rights to the entire world and that is why we have such a messed up society.. There was a time when if a person had a criminal history, said person would lose certain rights until such time that the criminal was either rehabilitated or perhaps the criminal would be put to death depending upon the severity of the crime. The proper way to handle this dilemma is to punish the criminal and protect the Citizen. citizens should look at the videos of the congressional sit in and see if any of their elected officials are part of the sit in. If so, then muster up sufficient votes to get them out of congress. The way I see it, the only killer here is the person who aimed and pulled the trigger. Make purchasing of a gun hard will only impact the law abiding citizens. The “bad guy” doesn’t abide by the laws set by our government. That is why he’s the “bad guy”. Make the consequences tougher. One of the men accused in the shooting, Aguasvivas, was a passenger in the vehicle involved in the shooting of Officer John Moynihan on March 27, 2015. Aguasvivas was also released on a probation violation two weeks before that shooting. This happens a lot. So Democrats, stop setting a bad example to the children of the US and start doing your job that you get so handsomely paid to do.

Obama or some dem said one thing I agree with: something to the effect that it is insane to allow someone who is mentally unstable, who is under investigation or convicted of, a violent crime, to buy an assault rifle.
To that end nationwide database(s) should be established for access by local authorities, who must approve applications to purchase before such sales. May I add two more qualifications which would prohibit someone from buying and/or owning an assault rifle: anyone who is not a citizen of your country, or who has been resident in your country for a period of less than of five years.
