President Barack Obama just can’t seem to find an honest secretary of state… and maybe he doesn’t want to.
Newly uncovered documents show that Secretary of State John Kerry may have channeled $9 million in taxpayer funds to a nonprofit run by his daughter, Vanessa – without any competition.
And the State Department broke its own rules in the process, something that has government watchdogs calling for Kerry’s head.
In the latest example of how politicians take money from your families and give it to their families, the Peace Corps awarded Dr. Vanessa Bradford Kerry’s group, Seed Global Health, a $2 million grant in 2012, with another $900,000 a year later.
Kerry reportedly had insiders in the government grease the skids to make sure the millions went directly to his daughter with no outside group interfering. Documents obtained by The Daily Caller News Foundation show that Peace Corps Director Buck Buckingham bragged that the whole grant “process can be fast tracked and non-competed through a specific grant mechanism.”
The Peace Corps – and its budget – is overseen by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. And the head of the committee at the time was Sen. John Kerry.
When that grant ran out in 2015, the State Department gave Seed another $6.4 million grant for four years, with no competition – while John Kerry was secretary of state.
That appears to break government rules, which say grants can only be given for a total of five years. Kerry’s nonprofit got two no-competition grants that lasted for seven years (so far).
In 2013-2014, Vanessa Kerry made more than $140,000 in cash and “other compensation” from the group and its related entities, while saying she worked 30 hours a week.
Not to worry, a spokesperson for Seed, Mark Marino, said, “No conflict of interest exists in our partnership with Peace Corps and the US government,” because “Dr. Kerry receives no financial compensation from the Peace Corps or US government.”
Right. She just received $140,000 from a group funded by the government, delivered by agencies controlled or influenced by her father. Nothing to see here – move along.
Her elite, flip-flopping father helped open plenty of doors for Dr. Vanessa Kerry, who graduated from Harvard Medical School, oversaw a vaccination program funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and was elected a term member to the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), a dominant group of D.C. power brokers.
John Kerry, who started his career by slandering his fellow Vietnam veterans, also passed on his anti-American views and radical associations to his daughter. “A huge part of my father’s career had been Vietnam Veterans Against the War,” many of whom were not real vets and who falsely accused U.S. soldiers of atrocities and burned the U.S. flag, Vanessa Kerry said in February. “A lot of the friends we knew of his were people who had been a part of that.”
She exposed her own Colin Kapernick-like view of America in a 2010 New York Times article proposing a group like the one she would launch the next year. Having U.S. taxpayers underwrite the medical needs of the Third World would “help immunize populations against the virus of desperation that too often puts a gun or bomb in someone’s hands.”
“Violence, poverty, and neglect are breeding extremism,” she wrote – as if Muslim radicals really just want a DPT shot.
If Vanessa Kerry really thinks medical treatments can end terrorism, maybe we should send her and her dad over to Syria to treat ISIS. What do you think?
