As the deadly flood waters begin to recede in parts of Louisiana’s capital city, haunting images of their devastating effect have begun to surface — including a macabre picture of caskets being unearthed from the ground.

Though the rain has mostly stopped, new places in the state faced flood dangers from the deluge that has sent thousands into shelters.
Rivers and creeks were still dangerously bloated in areas south of Baton Rouge as people filled sandbags there to protect their houses, bracing for the worst as the water worked its way south. In one area, Ascension Parish, officials said some small towns have already been inundated.
Seven deaths have been reported and more than 20,000 have had to be rescued since Friday in some of the worst flooding the state has ever seen. And at least 11,000 have hunkered down in shelters to wait out the floods.
The slow-moving, low-pressure system that dumped more than 20 inches of rain on some parts of Louisiana was crawling into Texas, but the National Weather Service warned the danger of new flooding remained high due to the sheer volume of water flowing toward the Gulf of Mexico.

In and around Baton Rouge, many were anxious to check on damage. But a police officer at one Baton Rouge area roadblock warned Jack Miller that the 60-year-old was risking arrest if he tried to drive a boat on a trailer down a stretch of the highway down to just two lanes.
“I’m trying to get back to my home and rescue my cat,” Miller said.
Authorities late Monday said a body had been pulled from floodwaters in Baton Rouge, raising the toll to seven dead.
Casey Rayborn Hicks, a spokeswoman for the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office, said a volunteer patrolling in his boat Monday found the victim in front of a library though the manner of death and the person’s identity still awaited confirmation.
Despite the dangers, people ventured out.
Karla and Johnathon McDaniel waded through chest-deep water to revisit their home they fled late Saturday night but the water was too deep to get inside.
On their way out, the McDaniels stopped to gawk at a monster truck revving its engine in a failed attempt to free a National Guard vehicle mired in a muddy ditch. It was a welcome moment of levity after days of worry around the state’s southeast, which saw thousands of water rescues.
Julee Doiron, 56, and a friend walked down the road to a flooded storage facility where she has a valuable record collection. She felt fortunate the flooding stopped a block short of her home, but she owns a couple of water-damaged rental properties that aren’t covered by flood insurance.
“None of these places are in a flood zone,” she said. “Why buy it if you don’t need it? My agent didn’t recommend it to me.”
In a state more accustomed to hurricanes, forecasters said the rains were nearly off the charts in intensity. Meteorologist Ken Graham of the National Weather Service’s office in Slidell, near New Orleans, said forecasters had alerted people days ahead of the rain. Yet the forecasts Thursday were for 8 inches of rain, with higher totals expected in some areas.

One town, Zachary, received more than 2 feet of rain in a 48-hour period that ended Saturday morning. Another, Livingston, got nearly 22 inches over the same stretch. Rivers in the region reached historic highs — occasionally shattering old records dating to 1983 floods.
As the scope of the disaster became clear, churches, schools and other places opened to take evacuees. Shelters filled up so fast that some slept on the floor because not enough cots had arrived. And some shelters had to shut down when they also took on water.

Volunteers have been dropping off supplies and food like jambalaya or red beans and rice at shelters. They have also been going out in boats — locally referred to as the “Cajun Navy” — to rescue people, supplementing the efforts of National Guardsmen, state officials and Coast Guardsmen deploying in high-water vehicles, boats and helicopters.
Jared Serigne of St. Bernard Parish said he helped organize volunteer efforts involving roughly 70 experienced boaters who helped hundreds of people from flooded communities. He criticized government officials for closing roads, blocking boats from reaching launch areas.
“You’ve got all of these people who hunt and fish who have more experience than the average first responder,” he said.
Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards defended the state’s response, saying unprecedented flooding “presented tremendous challenges for everyone.”
“But I’m very proud of the effort that we’re making. More than anything else, I’m proud that Louisianians are taking care of their own and people are being neighbors to one another,” he said.

Plants take in CO2 and give off oxygen and we do the opposite – that is how the balance is kept. I can see your point on the weather-not evolution. I will never say that any politicians are perfect. Our system proves that lobbyists, etc., have become too powerful and tempting tour lawmakers. BUT, the effect that demos are trying to impress are out. They are sitting in high positions complaining about the rich while men like Soros are behind them. They also are rich. Handing out entitlements is making much of our country on welfare. Why work if you can get more free–and all they want is your vote. Then I was challenged to do my own research and realized that one major volcanic eruption releases more greenhouse gas than what mankind can put out in 500 years. We here at the Jet Propulsion Labs are sitting here year after year monitoring the upward northern shift in the Jet Stream which is now located over Canada. So long as the NATURAL SHIFT in the Jet Stream is pushed that far north, California and much of the Southern Hemisphere of the U. S. will experience increased drought with very hot summer conditions. Now, I ask you this, what has Gore and any of his followers ever accomplished in the field of science. Bruce, I would like to mention one last fact and that is the North Pole is in fact melting, slightly at the moment, due to this upward warming trend moving northward. However, one thing everyone is turning a blind eye to is that the South Pole is substantially increasing in size of frozen tundra real estate and at a very fast pace. That is due to the above mentioned warming trend moving away from the South Pole allowing it to drive the drop in temperature that is NATURALLY forcing the re-growth of the Antarctic ice pack.

Scientists call last month warmest on record, sound a warning

In the 136 years scientists have been tracking global temperatures, there has never been a warmer month than this July, according a new NASA report.
It was the 10th consecutive month of record warmth, making it likely that 2016 will be the hottest year ever recorded — breaking records set the two previous years.
Climate specialists said the striking pattern is an unmistakable sign of manmade global warming and called for action to reduce greenhouse gases.
“Statistics, like all these breaking records, tell us that real change is already happening, and ultimately, it poses serious risks to us and our descendants,’’ said Kerry Emanuel, a professor of atmospheric science at MIT. “I wonder how many more records we have to break before we all realize how important it is to act.’’
Two years ago, a report by the federal government called the National Climate Assessment found that the Northeast was already seeing the impact of climate change, from prolonged heat waves to torrential rains and increased flooding. The report attributed the impact to the burning of fossil fuels and other human activity.
It found that over the past century, average temperatures in the Northeast have risen by 2 degrees, while the region’s precipitation has climbed by more than 10 percent. The worst storms now bring far more precipitation than before.
Reto A. Ruedy, a project manager at NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies who oversaw the analysis of the recent findings, said warming is primarily due to the burning of fossil fuels and the rising amount of heat-trapping carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
“If we want to have a planet that looks similar to what we have now, one as habitable for humankind and animals as it has been for the past thousands of years, we better change our ways and stop building up CO2 concentration in the atmosphere,’’ he said.
This year has a 99 percent chance of being the warmest on record, said Gavin Schmidt, another climate scientist at the Goddard Institute.
Efforts to curb rising temperatures, including the historic agreement last year in Paris that requires carbon emission reductions, may help the planet avert worst-case scenarios.
But many effects of warming temperatures, such as rising sea levels, more powerful storms, and more species dying off, are already happening and will continue as the existing concentrations of carbon remain in the atmosphere, scientists say.
NASA’s report found that July was 1.51 degrees Fahrenheit warmer than the global average from 1950 to 1980, and about .18 degrees warmer than the previous records, set in July 2011 and July 2015.
July’s record temperatures were also the result of a lingering El Niño, a natural warming of portions of the Pacific Ocean that can change weather patterns elsewhere on the planet.
Scientists say the record temperatures should serve as a clarion call for the public to recognize climate change and elect leaders to address it.
“If you don’t accept the science, you can’t come up with a plan about how to address the problem,’’ said Raymond S. Bradley, head of the Climate System Research Center at the University of Massachusetts.
In Boston, the consequences of climate change could be calamitous. A report released by the city this year found that sea levels could rise more than 10 feet by the end of the century, plunging about 30 percent of Boston under water. If high levels of greenhouse gases continue to be released into the atmosphere, the seas could rise as much as 37 feet by 2200.
Richard Primack, a biology professor at Boston University, said climate change has altered everything from where and when flowers and plants grow to how birds migrate and when insects are born.
“There are huge consequences for us as the climate changes,’’ he said. “Even if it gets just a little warmer and dryer in some places, agricultural systems around the world could collapse.’’

Bruce, one bit of advice, if the Government tells you to get on the “train to the promise land”, don’t do it. You seem to believe everything the Government tells you in your quoted science so I just wanted you to know that maybe it isn’t fact at all but rather smoke and mirrors you are relying on in your post.
You people won’t believe anything. The scientists at NASA and MIT and Carnegie Mellon are laying out the facts. BUT YOU’RE PROBABLY RIGHT. It’s all just lies. There is no truth anymore.
