A deranged madman had his target picked. His bomb was sophisticated, primed, and ready. The collateral damage the explosion left in it’s wake would have maimed and killed nearby innocent retirees.
Thanks to the heroic actions of Tennessee cops, he never got the chance.
A spokesman for the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says police have arrested a man accused of placing an improvised explosive device inside an employee’s car right outside a suburban Nashville nursing home.
TBI spokesman Josh DeVine said Sunday on his Twitter feed that 41-year-old Mitchell Hunter Oakes was arrested. Earlier Sunday, the TBI said Oakes faced a charge of attempted first-degree murder.
The device was spotted in the car Saturday by a worker who was ending her shift at the NHC Cool Springs facility in Franklin. About 60 patients were moved to other parts of the facility while local and federal bomb specialists used a robot to secure the device.
“The device was sophisticated and designed to do maximum harm to the intended victim, and would have hurt several others if it had detonated as intended,” Franklin police Lt. Charles Warner said Friday.
Franklin Police had said the person in whose vehicle the device was found had a connection to the suspect.

What did THEY ever do to him? Probably because he thought he’d have a better chance of killing more people with less danger to himself.
Have many friends and acquaintances in and around Franklin. And, a couple of them have older relatives in nursing homes in the area, perhaps in this one. Many thanks to the officers who just did their job. Would be nice if a good deed like this got more than 5 seconds on tonight’s news.
