Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has remained tight-lipped about Democrats’ plans if they retake Congress in November… until he let it slip during a Labor Day parade on Monday, when he hinted at a possible impeachment plan.
Republicans have speculated that Democrats will be hellbent on pushing President Donald Trump out of office if they win control of Congress — and this latest video of Schumer is giving the GOP the validation they’ve been waiting for.
The president’s allies have been circulating this Schumer video that critics say is obvious proof of what Democrats’ true intentions are for voters in November.
“When are you all going to impeach [President Donald] Trump?” a parade onlooker asked Schumer in a video uploaded to YouTube.
Schumer replied, “The sooner the better,” into his megaphone.
The parade onlooker then pressed Schumer on when he had plans to impeach Trump, the senator responded, “We got to get a few Republicans. The Democrats are on your side.”
For Republicans looking for evidence that Democrats want control of Congress just to push Trump out the door… this is the smoking gun proof.
After the video went viral on social media, Schumer’s spokesman, Matt House, tried to clean up his mess by claiming that the senator misunderstood the question he was asked.
“After a number of questions along the parade route about the fate of the President Trump’s Supreme Court nominee, the senator believed he was being asked, ‘When will you defeat Trump,’ and responded, ‘the sooner the better,’ noting that we need Republicans to defeat the nomination [of Kavanaugh],” House said.
Former White House aide Andy Surabian shot down House’s remarks and stated that his attempt at damage control came too late.
“After months of Democrat Leadership pretending that their ultimate goal wasn’t to impeach President Trump, Chuck Schumer just tore the mask off of his parties anti-Trump radicalism,” said Surabian.
He added, “If it wasn’t clear before, it should be clear now: Schumer and [House Minority Speaker Nancy] Pelosi’s end goal is to impeach this President and that’s why it’s vital for Trump supporters to turn out to vote in November and stop them in their tracks.”
Pelosi has continued to resist efforts by some Democrats to push impeachment as a campaign tactic heading into the 2018 midterms, and even told the mainstream media that it is “not a priority.”
But the GOP is hoping that the circulation of this video gets Republicans fired up about midterms — and that it ultimately puts Democrats on the defense.
“It was fundamentally a mistake and a mistake you’re going to see [broadcast by Republicans] time and again,” Surbian said of Schumer’s remarks.
