Former U.S. Treasury Secretary Larry Summers, who served under former President Bill Clinton, announced today that will resign from teaching at Harvard University amid a campus review of his ties to Jeffrey Epstein, the Ivy League school announced today.
Summers, 71, who has been on leave since November and whose name appeared hundreds of times in newly released Epstein files, and visited Epstein’s notorious private island and took trips on his private jet, “the Lolita Express,” will leave at the end of the school year, according to a statement from Harvard spokesperson Jason Newton.

“Professor Summers has announced that he will retire from his academic and faculty appointments at Harvard at the end of this academic year and will remain on leave until that time,” Newton said.
Summers also resigned as co-director of the Mossavar-Rahmani Center for Business and Government at the Harvard Kennedy School, following 15 years in the role, Newton confirmed.
In a statement, Summers said it was a difficult decision and expressed gratitude to the students and colleagues he worked with over 50 years.
“Free of formal responsibility, as President Emeritus and a retired professor, I look forward in time to engaging in research, analysis, and commentary on a range of global economic issues,” Summers said.
Summers, a longtime friend of both Clinton and former President Barack Obama has seen his world and status collapse in a matter of months, following last November’s release of his extensive communications with Epstein.
He previously apologized for his connections with Epstein and stepped down from teaching roles at Harvard last year, although he was still a tenured professor.
According to emails released by the Department of Justice, the duo regularly messaged each other about women, politics, and Harvard-linked projects.
According to the New York Post, Summers’ last correspondence with Epstein came in July 2019, a day before his arrest and just weeks before the former Wall Street financier was found dead in his New York prison cell.
It’s the latest fallout from the Justice Department’s recent release of millions of pages of records pertaining to Epstein.
In Britain, former Prince Andrew and ex-diplomat Peter Mandelson were arrested because of their connections to Epstein.
Summers’ connected to Clinton also comes at a bad time for the ex-president who will be deposed by the House Oversight Committee Friday as part of the committee’s probe into Jeffrey Epstein.
As previously reported by The Horn News, Bill Clinton will sit down with congressional staff and lawmakers on Feb. 27.
“The Clintons’ depositions will be held in Chappaqua, New York on February 26 and 27 as an accommodation for their schedules. The depositions are in accordance with House and Committee rules,” a spokeswoman for the House Oversight Committee said.
