Welcome to the political arena, Barron Trump.
In a surprising turn of events, Barron — the youngest child of former President Donald Trump — was elected by the Republican Party of Florida on Wednesday night as one of the state’s at-large delegates to the Republican National Convention.
At just 18 years old, Barron Trump’s appointment as a delegate marks his first, highest-profile political role.
Florida GOP chairman Evan Power expressed enthusiasm about the delegation, which includes grassroots leaders, elected officials, and various Trump family members.
“Florida is continuing to have a great convention team, but more importantly we are preparing to win Florida and win it big,” Power said.
Barron Trump, who has largely been kept out of the political spotlight, will graduate from high school next week. Unlike his older siblings, Eric Trump and Donald Trump, Jr. — who are also Florida at-large RNC delegates — Barron has had a more private life.
Now that he’s an officially an adult, Barron is stepping into the spotlight.
The Trump family’s influence on Florida’s RNC delegation is significant, with Eric Trump serving as the delegation’s chairman. Donald Trump has won the state twice, and the state party has largely lined up behind his presidential bid in the early stages of the Republican presidential primary despite Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ campaign.
Early in the primary, Florida party officials signaled their support for Trump, even going so far as to remove a loyalty pledge requirement that would have required GOP presidential candidates to support the eventual Republican nominee in order to be on the state’s March 19 primary ballot.
In addition to Trump family members, the Florida GOP approved several of the former president’s top supporters as RNC at-large delegates, including Kimberly Guilfoyle, Michael Boulous, Pam Bondi, Sergio Gor, Ike Perlmutter, and a series of state-level Republican politicians who endorsed Trump over DeSantis.
Barron Trump’s appointment as a delegate at such a young age is a surprising development in the political landscape.
As the youngest member of the Trump family to step into the political spotlight, his role in the upcoming Republican National Convention will draw speculation about his future involvement in politics.
