Just as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y. giveth, she taketh away.
The far-left congresswoman is expected to help vote through a massive stimulus relief package for millions of Americans — but she’s warning some folks to enjoy the money while they can.
Because she might take it all away later.
In a CNN interview Sunday, Ocasio-Cortez said that she intends on getting the money back from citizens next year after the COVID-19 outbreak blows over.
Americans who she decides “don’t need” the money will see their taxes jump by thousands.
She thinks that the checks should be distributed universally to all Americans, but only some taxpayers will be keeping the money. Others will just be borrowing it.
“One of the things that we’re saying is tax it back a year from now so you don’t have to worry about a big, complicated, bureaucratic means test upfront. Mail them all out to everybody, and let’s get it back from the folks who don’t need it next year,” the congresswoman said.
Ocasio-Cortez is right that time is of the essence and Americans need relief… fast.
But her point is lost after Democrats began playing politics with the stimulus bill in the first place, which held up the entire process.
And how could they stop politicking? Democratic leaders have created a no-win scenario, where their far-left base grows aggravated at the first sign of a compromise.
So this is Ocasio-Cortez saving face.
This plan allows her to keep her Democratic socialist brand alive and well – she would never be caught dead voting for any legislation that helped everyone in the country.
Just those in her base.
