If you ever needed proof that Washington is a one-party town, here it is: The nation’s largest Never-Trump “Republican” organization has asked to join forces with ultra-liberal Democrat Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to combat Donald Trump and his supporters.

Steve Schmidt, the co-founder of the Lincoln Project, launched a chain of tweets practically begging the former waitress to join them “in defense of democracy.”
“We need to work together or we are going to lose America,” Schmidt wrote. “ Maybe even it is the case that the future of the country depends on us. We are one election away from losing this country.”
He tried to get on her good side with a much-mocked boast about how much he and his well-heeled Republicans love waitresses like AOC. “We don’t look down on waitresses. We admire them. We are all the types of guys who always tip at 50% or more,” he insisted.
Schmidt, who helped run John McCain’s failed presidential campaign in 2008, said he and his fellow well-heeled Republicans want AOC to be the project’s senior partner.
“We pledge to listen. We pledge to learn. We pledge to be open to your ideas and we pledge to compromise,” Schmidt groveled.
He noted that the Never-Trumpers—who raised $67 million in the 2020 election cycle—have made “no such offer for the other side.”

That means they’ll work with a socialist, but they want nothing to do with real Republicans… because Trump supporters threaten their rewarding (and highly profitable) way of life.
I would like to officially reach out to @AOC on behalf of the @ProjectLincoln in defense of democracy. We disagree on many issues and that is ok in our view. Btw, we don’t look down on waitresses. We admire them. We are all the types of guys who always tip at 50% or more.

To her credit, AOC has been one of the Lincoln Project’s most outspoken critics. “Lincoln Project should take the L and publicly pledge to give a lot of their fundraising to the people who actually made a big difference,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted.
The New York freshman congresswoman, who believes the Democratic Party isn’t liberal enough, has done all she can to stop Democrats from working with the former Republicans because she fears the alliance will make her party more conservative and pro-business.

Ocasio-Cortez wrote that the Lincoln Project is “in scam territory [with] these results” from the 2020 election. If she saw “independent data” proving the group drove Republican-to-Democrat “persuasion – $67 million of it – I’ll publicly apologize,” she said. “But we just haven’t seen any.”
There’s potential incentive bc @ProjectLincoln is def in scam territory w these results. It’s a pretty bad rep even tho GOP has a thing for failing up.
Come clean, say “listen, we thought it’d work, it didn’t,& in good faith we’re gonna raise X mil for these ppl who deserve it”

She can save her breath. The results have come in—and they’re devastating for the Lincoln Project.
The Democratic SuperPAC Priorities USA tested the Lincoln Project’s most viral Twitter ads on undecided voters from swing states and found they had the opposite effect on real voters.

“The better the ad did on Twitter, the less it persuaded battleground state voters,” said analytics director Nick Ahamed.
“The data suggest some of the GOP groups’ messages may have inadvertently boosted support for Trump,” reported the far-Left Jacobin magazine.
Trump still holds a gargantuan approval rating of 90 to 95% among Republicans, according to Gallup polls—despite Schmidt’s best efforts.
“Despite their fat bank accounts and some terrific publicity, these people didn’t materially affect the presidential race at all … They didn’t move 10 votes,” wrote Charles Pierce at Esquire magazine. “They certainly didn’t materially affect the Republican side.”
“Never Trump is about as relevant to the actual election results this year as are the Whigs or the Free Soil Party,” Pierce wrote.
And now they’re about as relevant to the GOP as AOC. In fact, Schmidt announced this week he’s registered as a Democrat.
“At least he waited to make the announcement until right after he helped fundraise tens of millions of dollars under the pretense that he was a Republican who was against Trump,” said Josh Jordan.

He’s just lining up his registration with one of the Never-Trump movement’s main funders: the founder of eBay, an Iranian-born billionaire Pierre Omidyar. The leftist Democrat has given $4 million to just one of Bill Kristol’s many foundations.
“This billionaire” is “buying off so-called conservatives to create the illusion of broad intra-party disgust with Donald Trump,” writes Julie Kelly in her book, “Disloyal Opposition: How the #NeverTrump Right Tried – and Failed – to Take Down the President.”
Real GOP opposition to Trump “does not exist but that Never-Trump is paid—handsomely—to represent.”
Now they’ve taken the mask off and gotten into bed with the Democrats’ most wild-eyed leftist.
