President-elect Donald Trump isn’t even in office yet and he’s already proving his business savvy attitude could be exactly what American workers need.
In his latest deal, Trump managed to convince air conditioning company Carrier Corp. not to move manufacturing to Mexico, keeping nearly 1,000 jobs in Indiana. Trump and Vice President-elect Mike Pence plan to travel to the state Thursday to unveil the agreement alongside company officials.
Trump confirmed the meeting on Twitter late Tuesday, promising a “Great deal for workers!”
Carrier tweeted that the company was “pleased to have reached a deal” with Trump and Pence to keep the jobs in Indianapolis.
Trump spent much of his campaign pledging to keep companies like Carrier from moving jobs overseas, and he is living up to that promise. His focus on manufacturing jobs contributed to his appeal with working-class voters in states like Michigan, which has long voted for Democrats in presidential elections.
Neither Wilbur Ross, Trump’s pick for commerce secretary, nor Steven Mnuchin — the banker picked to be treasury secretary — would discuss specifics about the agreement on Wednesday. But Mnuchin told CNBC’s “Squawk Box” that Trump and his administration are “going to have open communications with business leaders.”
He said Trump called the CEO of Carrier’s parent company and said it was “important to keep jobs here.”
In February, Carrier said it would shutter its Indianapolis plant employing 1,400 workers and move its manufacturing to Mexico. The plant’s workers would have been laid off over three years starting in 2017.
United Technologies Electronic Controls also announced then that it planned to move its Huntington manufacturing operations to a new plant in Mexico, costing the northeastern Indiana city 700 jobs by 2018. Those workers make microprocessor-based controls for the HVAC and refrigeration industries.
Carrier and UTEC are both units of Hartford, Connecticut-based United Technologies Corp. — which also owns Pratt & Whitney, a big supplier of fighter jet engines that relies in part on U.S. military contracts.
In a September debate against Democratic rival Hillary Clinton, Trump railed against Carrier’s plans.
“So many hundreds and hundreds of companies are doing this,” Trump said. “We have to stop our jobs from being stolen from us. We have to stop our companies from leaving the United States.”
Carrier wasn’t the only company Trump assailed during the campaign. He pledged to give up Oreos after Nabisco’s parent, Mondelez International, said it would replace nine production lines in Chicago with four in Mexico. He criticized Ford after the company said it planned to invest $2.5 billion in engine and transmission plants in Mexico.
Chuck Jones, president of United Steelworkers Local 1999, which represents Carrier workers, said of Tuesday’s news: “I’m optimistic, but I don’t know what the situation is. I guess it’s a good sign. … You would think they would keep us in the loop. But we know nothing.”
The event Thursday in Indiana will be a rare public appearance for Trump, who has spent nearly his entire tenure as president-elect busy with advisers and meeting with possible Cabinet secretaries. He plans to make other stops later this week as part of what advisers have billed as a “thank you” tour for voters who backed him in the presidential campaign.

Therefore, on that record, I think that President elect Trump has a strong plan with specific goals for America and its people, and has the experience to talk with people and make a sound decision on who can best assist him in putting his plan in action achieving his goals. That said, if President elect does go with Romney or any other person that we do not personally agree with, then I will trust that Pres-elect Trump has a specific reason for his choice that I may not completely understand. Companies are moving manufacturing out of the US, because they cannot compete in the world economy with sky high US labor rates for unskilled labor. Economic impact is what drives the US economy. I would call the problem corporate greed. We in Canada had the best screws in the world, the Robertson screws. The company was bought out by a US company that closed the operation here and started buying from China. They are now one of the worst screw in the world. It would not surprise me that the equipment to make these screws ended up in China. I have seen many products that had been developed here in North America ending up in China and many of those had received government research help. In other words we develop something and we turn around and give our technology to China. When one company moves their production to China or Mexico the other have no choice but to follow their footsteps if they want to survive. This whole thing was started by Walmart. I worked in a store selling auto parts and I saw the parts that were made in North America replaced with parts from China and other countries. The quality was not there, very poor workmanship but people would buy them because of the price. I have seen tie rod ends fall apart when the mechanic was installing them.
I believe our problem is the following. Years ago we all saw the junk coming from Japan but it turned into the best on the planet. The Japanese before designing something they would determine how much the market could afford to pay for it and then then found a way to manufacture it for that price. In North America, price is the last thing on their mine. We build something with no thoughts about the sales and then we want to price it so it will pay for our inefficiencies. We have to become more efficient but keep our manufacturing cost down. Our system also have too many middlemen, all wanted to make 30%. Our companies must have pride in their work not just looking for profits and ending up with a part that nobody can afford.
You all got your own problems…a prime minister who is Castros son and his mother who is the whore of the country. Worry about your own problems before insulting ours.

Henry Ford figured out prudent business decisions a really long time ago. Such decisions have been bastardized in recent years by CEOs that are focused on the bottom line alone. What Ford did was raise the wage of his employees to $5/day. Why? So they could afford to buy Ford’s cars. Unemployed out of work people only buy what they are able to buy. Bring all those corporations home soon and we will watch the country flourish! And remember to let America be the corporate home to many other businesses from other nations around the globe who need a good place to work and have a reduced tax! I don’t know about anyone else but I love watching the mainstream media eating crow. All the false claims that Trumps policies will remove democracy in the US. wa wa wa. They are actually having a positive effect and he hasn’t taken office yet.
Here are some truths. The “progressive” (love the positive turn for socialism) and Democratic Party have been trying to divide Americans into groups, entitled groups as possible, doling out money from other taxpayers to purchasing everyone’s vote within these various groups. Victimhood and victimize is the message, I’m a victim what are you going to do for me? Is the question. Whether you’re black, homosexual, Hispanic, poor, female, or a transvestite, and any other block they can convince that our federal government is their savior and every day white people are their enemies.
Here are some hard facts all true and thoroughly researched. The most violent cities in the US are: Detroit, MI, Oakland, CA, Chicago, IL, Memphis, TN, St. Louis, MO (pray for my friend who is a cop in that horrible, violent city), Cleveland, OH, Baltimore, MD, Milwaukee, WI, Birmingham, AL, Newark, NJ, Kansas City, MO (ran as an Independent but leans liberal) and our loving capital, Washington, DC. To just name a few. All big cities controlled by Democratic mayors and councils. Let me just say… great job fellas. Job well done.
The most violent city in the US is Detroit and has been in the hands of the Democratic party since 1961. So, how has life gotten better for these folks? Promises made by a democrat is a promise easily broken. If the liberals actually care about you then why hasn’t your life gotten better? Because a liberal tells you it has and the media reinforces it? It’s much easier to be a victim and pretend you don’t notice but don’t they realize they’ve come full circle and are slaves again to the Democratic party as they were during the Revolutionary and Civil Wars (yes, the southern Democrats were the slave owners and Republicans freed them. So, let’s keep voting for the Democrats anyway).
Okay, so the message from the Democratic Party is, “You’re a worthless loser, dejected human being and have no value, fanning the flames of hatred and bitterness (Black Lives Matter). However, you are entitled to what only we, “the elite political ruling class,” can provide for you — now vote for us for eternity while we pander and whisper sweet nothings in your ears.” Flowery, yet empty promises. They use terms such as fairness, empathy, social justice and income equality (or inequality) are used to promote their deceptive agenda as caring when it’s oppression. I believe most Americans have empathy for the poor, donate what they can by monetary, clothing, etc in donations to the Salvation Army, Easter Seals, United Way and our churches. We aren’t heartless or uncaring BUT when are you going to wake the f up?
Asked a minority liberal what has Obama done for them? The answer lots. But, when you ask them what specifically has he done and given them. You see the wheels turning but I only heard the crickets chirping..

I worked for a subsituary of UTC. We went from 600 to 28 employees in just a few years when thy started to send our work and computers down to Mexico.
They brought and paid for Hispanic personal to get schooling in the US and called in the Japanise people to reorganize the Mexican facility. They paid huge amounts to have them organise work lines much like any American woman would organize her kitchen. And the product suffered as well as the American people.
