Freshman New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has made headlines since her election for some eyebrow-raising claims — but none were more far fetched than what she said Monday.
Ocasio-Cortez told a cheering audience that the world is going to end in 12 years if climate change isn’t addressed immediately.
She claimed the battle for environmental protections was her generation’s “World War II” and implied that any question about how these regulations would be paid for wasn’t worth her time.
“Millennials and people, you know, ‘Gen Z and’ all these folks that will come after us are looking up,” Ocasio-Cortez said about Congress.
“And we’re like: ‘The world is gonna end in 12 years if we don’t address climate change… and your biggest issue is how are we gonna pay for it!?'” she said.
She also called for Democrats to fight… literally.
“This is the war!” she told the cheering crowd. “This is our World War II.”

Ocasio-Cortez made the claim during an interview at the Riverside Church in Harlem in New York City during a Martin Luther King, Jr., Day event.
The far-left Democratic lawmaker is an outspoken socialist that has proposed a “Green New Deal” program to radically remake the entire U.S. economy — an idea that would cost taxpayers trillions of dollars.
In the proposed legislation, Ocasio-Cortez has called for the elimination of every source of fossil-fuel powered electricity, and she has demanded every single coal and natural gas power plant in the country be closed — by force if necessary — by 2030.
That’s just the beginning.
“Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal would also establish other extremely expensive government programs that would greatly expand the power and influence of the federal government,” Fox News reported.
“One such program would ‘assure a living wage job to every person who wants one,'” Fox News contrinued. “Additionally, she says the Green New Deal legislation should include ‘additional measures such as basic income programs, universal health care programs and any others as the select committee may deem appropriate to promote economic security, labor market flexibility and entrepreneurism.'”
