Former Vice President Al Gore had an unhinged meltdown on Monday during a climate change event in San Francisco, using his podium to compare the Trump administration to Adolf Hitler’s Nazi regime.
After saying that Hitler’s Third Reich was “uniquely evil, full stop,” Gore proceeded to draw direct parallels between Nazi Germany and the current administration — because of Trump’s approach to environmental policy.
“The Trump administration is insisting on trying to create their own preferred version of reality,” Gore claimed, after citing German philosopher Theodore Adorno’s assessment that Nazis “attacked the very heart of the distinction between true and false.”
Gore’s wild rhetoric included a series of claims about conservative positions on climate issues, saying Trump believes “the climate crisis is a hoax invented by the Chinese,” that “coal is clean,” “wind turbines cause cancer,” and that “sea-level rise just creates more beachfront property.”
While the Trump administration has questioned aspects of climate change policy, the administration’s approach has focused primarily on economic concerns and regulatory reform rather than “Nazism.”
The former vice president, who won an Academy Award for his 2006 documentary “An Inconvenient Truth,” has a history of making alarming climate predictions that have failed to materialize.
In that film, Gore predicted that without drastic action, sea levels would rise up to 20 feet “in the near future.” Nearly two decades later, global sea levels have risen approximately 2 inches since the film’s release, according to NOAA data.
Gore went further in his San Francisco Nazi rant, characterizing Trump as a “threat” to democracy that the founders of the Constitution intended to protect the public from.
His comments follow similar wild attacks from other prominent Democrats in recent weeks, including former President Barack Obama, former Vice President Kamala Harris, and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
The Trump administration has reversed several Biden-era environmental regulations, which were found to be economically harmful to Americans and generally overreaching.
Administration officials have emphasized balancing environmental concerns with smart growth, while slashing through federal waste and regulations in favor of a streamlined approach to economics.
Critics blasted Gore’s unhinged comments.
“Yawn… you’d think they’d come up with something new by now…” wrote one social media user.
“Al Gore boldly rebrands Trump as Hitler 2.0, recycling the same tired Dem talking point since forever,” wrote another.
“It’s not about morality. It’s about control. About forcing people to comply, pay more, and shut up while global polluters like China get a pass. Al Gore wants to lecture us on Nazi comparisons?” a third user on X asked. “Maybe start with your own climate authoritarianism. We see through it, and we’re not buying it.”
