Former President Donald Trump took the stage Sunday at the 2021 Conservative Political Action Conference to a cheering crowd.
In many ways, it was a return to form for Trump, who railed against corporate media, continued to air out his election grievances, and knocked President Joe Biden’s administration.
But he also made a very stunning admission that largely went unnoticed.
Based on The Hill reporting, he admitted that he became “worse” following the two Democrat-led impeachments.
But his words may not be what you’re thinking.
“I got impeached twice,” he told the crowd. “I became worse.”
The comments came as he was discussing how he and then-Attorney General William Barr got along. He reportedly said that under scrutiny Barr caved to the liberal mob. But as for himself, he insisted that he didn’t change one bit — in fact, he “got worse.”
In other words, he became more of a thorn in the Democrats’ side.
This comment drew raucous applause.
“He became a different man when the Democrats viciously stated that they wanted to impeach him,” Trump said of Barr. “They went wild. ‘We want to impeach him. We’re gonna impeach Bill Barr. We’re gonna impeach him.’ He became different. I understand that. I didn’t become different. I got impeached twice. I became worse.”
And while the fanfare on the stage was evident, poll numbers showed overwhelming support for the president as well.
Based on a CPAC straw poll taken, Тrump produced strong numbers in comparison with his GOP rivals.
His approval rating?
98 percent.
It’s a strong figure proving that he isn’t going anywhere, which Never Trumpers and other naysayers hoped for after the 2020 election.
He also bested Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida 70-21 — although attendees say that their second choice would be the wildly popular governor.
All in all, CPAC 2021 proved to be just the latest litmus test ahead of the 2022 Congressional election and ultimately the 2024 election.
And it seems that Trump remains the party favorite, so far.
