DeSantis destroys GOP civil war report

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, R-F.L., is refuting a report that he is feuding with former President Donald Trump.

DeSantis and Trump’s relationship remains friendly and cooperative, his office said, despite both of their clear ambition to win the Republican presidential primary in the 2024 election.

Reports claimed the two Republican frontrunners had fought over an upcoming Trump rally in Florida that will be held 200 miles from the building collapse in Surfside that has presumably killed over 130 Floridians.

The Washington Examiner reported that DeSantis “made a direct plea” to Trump to cancel the upcoming rally.

According to their report, the Trump camp refused — and the two sides were feuding.

“The governor is getting tested here as to how far he’s going to be pushed before he breaks ranks with President Trump. And he has to be very careful because this is Trump country,” a source allegedly told The Washington Examiner. “The base loves the president. But they equally love Ron. It’s a showdown going on right now.”

But DeSantis’ office has disputed that report in a statement Thursday to The Daily Caller.

“Governor DeSantis is focusing on his duties as Governor and the tragedy in Surfside, and has never suggested or requested that events planned in different parts of Florida — from the Stanley Cup finals to President Trump’s rally — should be canceled,” DeSantis’ office said.

“He wants all Floridians to enjoy the holiday weekend and celebrate Independence Day however they choose, while keeping the Surfside families and first responders in their prayers,” the statement said.
