Fox News star Sean Hannity took to the airwaves to blast the rumors building up behind the scenes at the cable news giant.
And in his tirade, he may have started one of the biggest rivalries in network television: Sean Hannity versus Tucker Carlson.
Hannity used a segment — which first reported by The Huffington Post — on Thursday to address a recent article shared by The New York Times columnist Ben Smith.
Smith said it was an “open secret” that Carlson is a major anonymous source among journalists.
In other words, the star host Carlson was accused of spilling the secrets of others to reporters — including dishing “sometimes-unflattering” stories about former President Donald Trump.
Add Sean Hannity to that list, too.
The same NYT reporter shared another recent link to a gossip column which revealed that Hannity was a favorite target of Carlson.
Hannity blasted the mainstream media giant for getting its information from a gossip site. But said if it was true, then Carlson was acting “gutlessly.”
“The New York Times is now getting information and passing on information from a Twitter account called ‘at Pop Bitch,'” he said. “You can’t make this Adam Schiff up,” he joked.
Critics note that Hannity didn’t name Carlson, and instead went after anyone at the network who doesn’t like him.
“Now the big news is that some people at Fox apparently don’t like me, and said bad things about me — gutlessly — behind my back, according to Ben Smith and members of the media mob,” Hannity said.
“Ben,” he continued, speaking directly to the NYT journalist, “if that’s true, that’s called a normal day in the world that I live in.”
“I don’t care,” Hannity continued. He remains unaffected by the people who don’t like him.
He noted that he does his job “loudly, proudly” and “unapologetically,” and said it will not change.
