Dr. Anthony Fauci told Fox News star Chris Wallace on “Fox News Sunday” that former President Donald Trump needed to tell his supporters to get vaccinated — despite Trump having already done that.
“I think it would make all the difference in the world” in the fight against coronavirus if Trump were to encourage his supporters to get vaccines.”He’s a widely popular person among Republicans.”
“If he came out and said, ‘Go and get vaccinated. It’s really important for your health, the health of your family and the health of the country,’ it seems absolutely inevitable that the vast majority of people who are his close followers would listen to him.”
“I just don’t get it, Chris, why they don’t want to get vaccinated,” Fauci said.
But Dr. Fauci seems to be suffering from selective memory.
Just ten days earlier, Fauci had been praising Trump for encouraging his followers to get vaccinated.
“I think that was very nice that he said that. I hope he continues to say that. He’s got a lot of influence,” Fauci said about Trump’s recent speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference 2021 (CPAC). “And I believe that if he tells people to get vaccinated, that will be very helpful.”
“I think that Donald Trump would have much, much greater influence on changing minds at CPAC than I would,” Fauci said.
Trump told his supporters, “Everybody, go get your shot.” He said the media was giving credit to President Joe Biden’s administration, not his, for the effective vaccine rollout.
“Joe Biden is only implementing the plan that we put in place, and if we had an honest media — which we don’t — they would say it loud and clear,” he said.
