Another accuser of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh has admitted she lied about the rape accusations she sent to Congress during the controversial confirmation process.
In a letter to the Justice Department on Friday, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley formally asked for the prosecution of Judy Munro-Leighton for lying to Congress and obstructing the confirmation.
According to The Washington Times, Munro-Leighton admitted to Congressional investigators that her accusations were made as “a tactic” to stop Kavanaugh’s confirmation. Munro-Leighton had accused Kavanaugh of raping her in the back of a car.
“I was angry,” she reportedly said, and decided to make a false rape claim “as a way to grab attention.”
The bombshell confession comes just 10 days after an FBI investigation into Kavanaugh accuser Julie Swetnick and her lawyer, Michael Avenatti, was requested. Grassley has accused Swetnick of false claims and obstruction of Congress.
Kavanaugh’s most credible accuser, Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, dropped all her accusations against Kavanaugh in early October.
Ford’s lawyer also told CNN that her client would not cooperate with any Democratic efforts to impeach Kavanaugh.
Ford is set to cash out on nearly $1 million in crowdfunding donations, and is still actively soliciting donations. She is also reportedly shopping around for a book deal.
Kavanaugh himself turned down over $600,000 in crowdfunding donations. The money will be given to charities instead.
A 414-page report released by the Senate on Friday concluded there was “no evidence” to back any of Kavanaugh’s accusers, Fox News reported.
“Following the separate and extensive investigations by both the Committee and the FBI, there was no evidence to substantiate any of the claims of sexual assault made against Justice Kavanaugh,” the Senate report read.
"This was a serious and thorough investigation that left no stone unturned in our pursuit of the facts,” Grassley said. “In the end, there was no credible evidence to support the allegations against the nominee.”https://t.co/xJKAoiWJlW
