Longtime Fox host suddenly fired

Longtime Fox local TV star Steve Edwards was fired suddenly this week from his position at Los Angeles’ KTTV, the second largest media markets in the country.

Edwards was so popular, his show regularly beat nationally syndicated morning shows in ratings — even though he and his co-hosts were limited to Los Angeles.

The removal of Edwards rocked the TV news world to it’s world. Across the industry his colleagues expressed their shock.

Co-host Tony McEwing praised Edwards, calling him “a mentor and a friend and my staunchest supporter” and saying that reporting his firing was “without question one of the most difficult things I’ve ever had to read” on-air.

Edwards, 69, had been the longtime host of the morning program “Good Day L.A.” for more than 20 years. The station has confirmed he was removed over sexual harassment allegations.

Edwards joined liberal news hosts Matt Lauer, Travis Smiley, Charlie Rose, and more as the latest in a long line of star television personalities to lose their job this year.

Tuesday, KTTV Fox addressed the matter on-air during “Good Day L.A.”

“Steve Edwards, longtime anchor of ‘Good Day L.A.’ and a fixture on LA television for many years is no longer employed by KTTV. We have no further information to share with you,” McEwing said.

“Edwards has earned multiple Los Angeles-area Emmys and in 2004 got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his many years of work on local airwaves,” The Mercury Times reported.

Have sexual harrassment accusations become a witch hunt?
