If you’re a small business owner or a hiring manager at your company, get ready to get out your international dictionary.
Thanks to President Barack Obama’s newest move, if an employer asks his or her employees to speak English at work, they’re now subject to serious fines — and even jail time — for violating the employees’ civil rights.
“Requiring employees in the United States to speak a foreign language is not discriminatory but forcing them to speak English violates federal law under a sweeping order issued by the Obama administration to crack down on ‘national origin discrimination’ in the workplace,” conservative watch dog Judicial Watch reported last week. “The government’s new enforcement guidelines state that bilingual requirements don’t meet discrimination claims under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act but English-only rules do because they’re restrictive language policies.”
Consider how insane this new rule is: Should a company refuse to hire a person for a position because the candidate only speaks a rare Mongolian tribal language, they’re now considered racists that must be punished.
Of course, it’s perfectly acceptable to require that workers speak a foreign language. For example, you can put in your job description that the employee must be able translate Mongolian.
But employers cannot insist their employees speak English.
If you think this is fantasy, you’re in for a harsh awakening — the Obama administration has already successfully sued a Wisconsin metal and plastic manufacturer in 2014 for asking it’s employees to speak English, not Hmong (a South-Eastern Asian language), while working on the factory line.
According to Judicial Watch, “The administration asserts that the new rules, which cover a broad range of scenarios that could get employers in trouble, were created because the American workforce is ‘increasingly ethnically diverse.’ The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the federal agency that enforces the nation’s workplace discrimination laws, made them public a few days ago.”

I have read in several places that Hillary Clinton smells of Sulphur, as well. Others have written that her breath smells of rotting meat. The stench has been reported to be most pronounced when she is in a rage and attacking her team members. To be fair, there are certain illnesses/diseases/medications that can have these same effects.

schneewichen, I believe that President Elect Trump said that he and his team are building a list of the executive orders that need to be done away with immediately upon taking office. They already know what is required to make that happen and are preparing for it. Eight years of EOs is a lot to look at, but he has chosen a great team that will be helping with that. I read that Congress is on top of it, as well, and getting things ready to go right after he is sworn in to tackle the task of undoing as much of the Obama regime’s damage as possible right out of the gate.
I would ask that your prayers for our new leaders and their teams continue. I have my doubts that the current regime is going to make this a smooth transition. We are way too accommodating. We pay for the court and business translators and for all the paperwork for so many government and regulated that has a whole page of avaiable language translations available. Just yesterday I recycled a paper from my RX provider..a paper, the printing, the time, the translators…..eeek
Me too….my great grandparents struggled to learn the English language when they came to American, but they were glad to do so, they were happy to be here, and wanted to be a part of the great country they were able to move to. They had left some pretty sad circumstances, wanted to be a part of something great–the land of opportunity!
We learned to speak some German in our Lutheran school so we could communicate with some of the really old people. (or maybe it was just so we knew when we were getting yelled at!) We even had German church services still in the early 60’s for those who struggled with their new language (or were maybe stubborn!). We were taught to sing Christmas songs in German to make our ancestors smile, but we did not excuse them from learning the language. Live here, work here? Speak English! It is our language!
Half of the time when I go to a store I can not get help in locating an item. The reason for this is I do not speak their lanquage, strange I do not remember moving out of America. In making things more convenent for immigrants we are making things harder for people born here.

Ireland, Kenya, Uganda were under British rule, all countries who were under British rule all speak English. My late maternal grandfather came from Norway, he had to learn English when he arrived in New York City, he work in his aunt & uncles bakery in the Norwegion part of Bay Ridge in the borough of Brooklyn which today is still Norwegion, but English is spoken there. The outgoing First lady’s ancestors that were brought over on the slave ships from the West Coast of the African continent had to learn English.
In Russia, China many students from their Freshman year of high school and all the way up to when those that go to college & get their PHD’s have to learn English, Russian, Chinese as part of their studies. Those in Japan & South Korea that major in Business, Commerce, Law all have to learn English.
China actually starts teaching English in the first grade. Was on 60 minutes one sunday..

How can customers with questions understand someone who cannot understand the customers. Many people who came here to the United States & its territories had to learn English. The article is not clear on the source of this new law. Was this law passed by Congressional legislation and signed into law by Obama? Did Obama create this law by executive order? Was this law created by some regulatory agency without Constitutional authority to make laws? In any case it is not only insane but dumb. An employee may be able to communicate with fellow employees as well as customers or various business contacts. This law must be repealed or revoked or whatever is necessary to get rid of it.

If you go to another country, you have to learn their language because they do not believe their country has to change to suit the outsider. Trying to punish a business owner because the owner and other employees do not speak the language of an incoming employee and do not understand the other employee is ridiculous. Diversity is a hallmark of America, but so is the English language. If an employee refuses to learn the English language, then the employee has no intention of assimilating into our way of life or our country. Immigration is designed t improve the country, not change the country to benefit the immigrant or refugee. Tell Obama where he can stick his new punishment and tell Congress the same thing. We need someone with extra cash to get with a promising businessman who needs cash and people to open a well thought out business that requires the English language to function. Design the business so that it is obvious that at least a high school (or perhaps even a collegel) level of the English language is required for the business to function. And, then let The Administration take the issue to the courts. Any thinking and knowledgeable judge would shoot legal holes in the Administration’s case. Gads, a business person can dictate all kinds of requirements, such as good eyesight (or correctable), hearing, able to communicate in English, under pressure or within critical time limits, etc. And, for the umpteenth time, .where in good conscience (being polite), is our Congress?—They should keep in mind, if the NWO groups come into power, they all will be out of jobs, as all political decisions will be made by a small handful of fanatics. There was a bill floating around in congress about 10 or 15 years ago that would make English our national language. It got shot down for being racist. Really? If that’s the case than EVERY OTHER COUNTRY IN THE WORLD IS RACIST because they all have their own national language. French is France’s national language. Italian is Italy’s national language. Chinese is China’s national language. German is Germany’s national language. Spanish is Spain and many other Hispanic country’s national language. If making English our national language is racist then all these other countries are racist, too.

This law literally just doesn’t exist. It never happened
Two of my grandparents were bi-lingual as were two of my husband’s grandparents. My other grandfather spoke 4 languages and my other grandmother spoke 5. English was her fifth language. If they learned English, there isn’t a reason in this day and age NOT to learn English.

What a load of BULLSHIT. FUCK THAT. Why would anybody want to move to a different country and not learn that country’s language so that they can communicate with the people? If this ASSHOLE wants to pass this law, fine. If an employee doesn’t speak English than there’s one perfect solution. Don’t talk to that person at all. That goes for outside of the workplace on the streets as well. If someone walks up to you and starts to talk to you in some language other than English just ignore them and walk away.

I am an employer and we have not been able to ask our potential employees if they speak English for years? If a person cannot do the job, you do not have to hire them. I think, in an interview, you can figure out if their lack of knowing good English, will determine whether they can doing their job or not. I hire a lot of Spanish speaking people, and many have been here for decades and they do no learn English, but if they are bilingual they are doing themselves a great favor because they will get promoted into supervisory positions and those that are not bilingual won’t get the position. There are a lot of jobs for people that do not speak English but if they want to open their options, they may want to learn English and the same goes for those that speak English only, also. We live in a world where speaking two or more languages opens a lot of doors.
This really shouldn’t surprise anyone, this clown in chief has been doing everything he can to destroy this nation. Our founding fathers warned us that the biggest threat to this country would come from within. Eisenhower warned us about the Military Industrial Complex, Kennedy warned us about the CIA and the media. Washington warned us about siding with a party, that our loyalties should be to the nation not one particular party. There is war on the horizon, but it will be a Civil War fought for the identity and direction of this nation. When the smoke clears, I don’t think we will have to worry about anyone being triggered, in need of therapy dogs, coloring books, hot cocoa, cry-ins or safe spaces.

President Trump needs to set up a team to review Obama era regulations and see which ones need to be voided. This rule fits that criteria. We have this fruitcake requirement enshrined in law in the UK. Employers can be found ‘racist’ and fined for just asking employees (even if for safety reasons) to communicate in English. Of course, this plays into the hands of the minority Nationalists (Scots, Welsh) who are demanding total devolution powers from the UK government, especially the Welsh contingent who grab every opportunity to have employers prosecuted for every tiny perceived infringement of their ‘rights’. Welsh Nationalists go to employment tribunals where they can claim they did not get a job, because they had a thick Welsh accent, or because they were heard speaking in Welsh. Instead of bringing peoples together, it has just pushed the rational and the extremists camps further apart.
So you can’t not hire somebody because they don’t speak english and you can’t tell them to speak english. OK, lets hire them and explain their job duties in english and when they don’t do their job, fire them for insubordination.
