How did the Hampshire College respond to the victory of President-elect Donald Trump?
By banning the flying of all flags on campus!
On the night before Veterans’ Day, one of the most patriotic holidays in America, a criminal took down the American flag at Hampshire College in Massachusetts, and lit it in on fire, presumably to protest Trump’s election.
Hampshire College President Jonathan Lash responded by sending a campus-wide email that read, “We will not fly the U.S. flag or any other flags at Hampshire for the time being.”
This embarrassingly weak response to a one of the biggest insults to our nation only gets worse.
His reasoning for banning patriotism is to “enable us to instead focus our efforts on addressing racist, misogynist, Islamophobic, anti-immigrant, anti-Semitic, and anti-LGBTQ rhetoric and behaviors,” Campus Reform reported.
This looney liberal is blaming Old Glory for our nation’s racism. But he’s way off. The American flag stands for freedom, liberty and human rights. It’s no surprise Lash doesn’t understand this, as his disrespect for the flag started long before the flag burning on his campus.
The campus-wide email details the fact that the college has been flying the flag at half-staff for months, due to, “the current environment of escalating hate-based violence,” in order for the community to delve, “deeper into the meaning of the flag and its presence on campus.”
But the purpose of flying the flag at half-staff isn’t so you can get a closer look and figure out what it means.
According to the Flag Code, “by order of the President, the flag shall be flown at half-staff upon the death of principal figures of the United States Government and the Governor of a state, territory, or possession, as a mark of respect to their memory.”
Lash is actively disrespecting the flag with orders that he doesn’t even have the authority to give.
Now, with the flags removed, the students and faculty plan to actively discuss the meaning of the flag, and how they can avoid hurting anyone’s feelings by flying a symbol of pride for the nation they are in.
State Representative and Army veteran John Velis defended the flag in a letter to the college president. “Do I need to remind you, Mr. President, that discussions surrounding these above groups would not be possible if not for the sacrifice of our service members and veterans? Having the aforementioned discussion and respecting veterans are not mutually exclusive,” the Boston Globe reported.
He continued, “Mr. President, put back those flags.”
A reasonable demand by a man who put his life on the line so those flags could continue flying high and proud.

They continue to try to push their saul alinsky radical socialist/communist agenda, although the majority of Americans are now aware of their intent to destroy democracy in our country. If my children were college age, I wouldn’t consider sending them to any of these schools to be indoctrinated and brainwashed as college children are today. What a sad situation!!
Iizaz, Great points, but I would only add that if any of these kids in the radical schools, were my kids, they would be brought back home; their party-college days would be over, and scholarships they had received, would have to be forfeited! IF they had a car at college, the car would need to be parked in Mommy & Daddy’s drive, and Daddy getting the keys. They would have to find a job and ride their bicycle to work. As parents, we have for tooooo long been giving and giving, and for many, it is not appreciated. Anyone can not like the way the election turned out, but both sides have lost elections since the founding of our country….and our country has survived and thrived! I think the above says it best. For those who refuse to abide by these simple facts, you can leave willingly, but to tolerate this behavior from the liberal left and all others is a slap in the face to this country and those who served it, myself included. I would much rather have an illegal person here who would respect this nation and what it stands for than these so called Americans who disrespect it at every turn.
Easy cut off all federal funding . Make a law that to get federal funding they must fly the American flag from sun up to sun down or put a light on it and leave it up 24/7, Offer 1-2 courses on US History and play the national anthem at all sporting events before a game is played. Allow officer recruiters on campus, allow ROTC on any campus if the Military has and interest in establishing one. Add any more Ideas you want. To allow one dollar of federal funding for tuition assistance or any thing. If they want to be 100% privately funded and no federal tuition assistance including students using the GI Bill then they can do what the hell they want. If they want a penny of any Government tax payers money they better comply.

When I went to prep school to the north of Hampshire College, it was considered an honor to raise the flag in the morning and retire the colors at dusk.

As an American, I myself have always had this sort of “automatic” feeling of love for my country, which translates to a knee-jerk reaction of DEFENDING AMERICA, what it stands for, and for what being American actually means. From my perspective, what America means has NOTHING To do with breaking laws, trashing our country, and letting any foreign or domestic entity hurt this country. I feel BLESSED BY GOD that I have this natural built-in feeling of LOVE for America. For any “Americans” out there who cannot seem to access that feeling from their hearts for this very special country, all I can say is that I feel really, really sorry for you. However, if you don’t LOVE this fantastic country that you were born in, I suggest YOU immigrate elsewhere, perhaps to a 3rd world sort of Banana Republic, that supports the values that you deem so important. This pathetic lack of PATRIOTISM being displayed by people who would even THINK about burning our flag, or banning it from colleges, etc. is simply unfathomable.
