Liberal insanity! College prof. goes mental

I can think of no better example of how the aggressive mental disease of self-righteous liberal insanity has totally taken over our college and university system than this.

A college in Pennslyvania ruled in an official review that one of their a professor is unremarkable, and denied him tenure.

And the professor responded with a hunger strike.

His demands: Give me what I want, or I won’t eat.

Lafayette College Associate Spanish Professor Juan Rojo has announced a very public protest against so-called tyranny and racism, going on a hunger strike until the school gives him tenure.

“In higher education, academic tenure amounts to a teaching position that is guaranteed for life … and therefore dearly coveted,” The Washington Post explains. “Often, there are strict publishing, teaching and research requirements for those on a tenure track to achieve before being considered for a tenured position.”

Tenured positions are becoming increasingly rare in academics, because of the legal protection the teacher is afforded before they can be dismissed with cause by their employer.

If tenure is denied, the professor is asked to leave at the end of the academic year and get a new job. So it’s understandable Rojo is upset, I admit — he’s losing his job, after all.

But a hunger strike over not being given a permanent, cushy position?

Give me a break.

Refusing to eat to get what they want is the kind of response one would expect from a pouty child, not a grown man.

These days, the line between the two are increasingly blurred.

And Rojo’s deplorable behavior gets worse. Since his hunger strike began, Rojo has taken to the internet, claiming that Lafayette College is an imperialistic power, that the students that don’t like him are racist, and that his hunger strike is a fight for social justice.

He must fancy himself a Gandhi-like figure.

He’s not.

Here’s the reality: Rojo’s hunger strike is a prime example of left-wing self-delusion that has become an epidemic in our education system.

Why was Rojo denied tenure? The college president deemed him to be an adequate –but unremarkable — teacher, based on reviews by his fellow faculty and his students.

But according to Rojo, he was denied tenure because his students are racist against Latinos.

“… while uncomfortable to many, the racial issue is central,” Rojo writes in his latest Facebook post. “By using a mode of evaluation (student evaluations) that is unreliable in general and has a built in bias against women and Latinos, and those within specific subject areas, the President has made this a social justice issue.”

Rojo’s rant concludes:

“Why a hunger strike? BECAUSE I AM NOBODY. I AM JUST ANOTHER PROFESSOR WITH A FUNNY NAME. AND IF I WANT TO BE HEARD, PEOPLE IN POWER HAVE TO BE FORCED TO SEE THAT I EXIST AND LISTEN TO WHAT I HAVE TO SAY,” Rojo said.

Insanity, thy name is liberalism.

He needs to be fired. Any professor or teacher that causes unnecessary drama or incendiary behavior should be let go immediately. We don’t have time for these distractions, there are really important issues in America.

This is a “Private University.” This is not a Public Institution of Higher Learning. Professors have to produce and students have to want to be there.
The University and students ruled this guy was adequate, not exceptional, which is the song of death to someone seeking tenure. At least he won’t be a “fat guy,” anymore.

Actually, whether the institution is private or public, professors/teachers are paid by taxpayers/parents. Therefore, they need to be held accountable! No one should get a free ride if they don’t perform.

He could just as easily be a conservative. What is undeniable is that he is acting like a spoiled little brat and that is no qualification for a teaching position.

OracleGuy the sage of higher learning; hopefully you meant “has” and not “is” in your reply. I’d hate to think of you as a mere mortal and one of us lessor educated conservative cretins – oh wait he is one of you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It’s about college’s stand up to these leftist elitists professors and without tenure’s – let him return to whatever country he would call home and see what kind of reception he’d receive with these antics and outbursts.
It’s long past due for common sense and conservative views to be available to students in the halls and classrooms of higher learning institutions.

Oh and to add to my first comment. There should be NO TENURE in any colleges for any reason. It’s a stupid policy and should no longer be offered anywhere!

    • Mathew Molk says

      September 2, 2016 at 1:21 pm

Couldn’t agree with you any more, Cynthy. Especially in grades 1-12. Put them in as contractors with yearly reviews. If you can’t teach your contract is not renewed and then it’s down the road with you.

  11. Mathew Molk says

    September 2, 2016 at 1:31 pm

    Why is there “Tenure” anywhere?.

How is it the rest of every business, including civil service jobs are not always in court and the news over silly crap like this?

Put them all in as individual private contractors with yearly reviews Let each teacher negotiate a new contract every year andit will be the highway for all that cannot perform. It’s way past time to put the NEA and any other teacher’s union to sleep. They have not put put out a saleable product for over 30 years.

And not only for Collages,,,,I ESPECIALLY mean grades 1 to 12. – You would be surprised how the level of performance would go up and thje cost would go down. — Do other countries that aer above the US in Math and Physics have tenured teachers? It’s a;; the proof we need. Can the lot of them and start over.

I take it the guy never stood in a unemployment line or he would know he gets more benefits then any when it comes to employment, they need to put up a sign at all employment office’s a huge sign saying “White Men need not apply” I once took a test with over 400 people for a job with the government, I got the top score by over 20 points and asked when I would have a interview? Was told I dropped from number 1 to number 25 as they were a equal opportunity employers and named off many hispaincs and blacks who came before me and that is when I told them to put up the above sign.

Just a thought? I have just finished reading the Bill O’Reily book “Legends And Lies”, and near the end of the book he speaks of a young black lady who was the first published black poet. Since I am very interested in poetry as well as philosophy, I decided to google the young lady and read some of her work. After reading several poems the thought came to me that this lady can articulate far better than I. Then it dawned on me that even the slaves back then were better educated than our students are today and they expressed themselves more eloquently, using vocabulary skills that surpasses that of today’s feeble attempts to sound refined. Below is a short poem from this lady. I hope that it blesses you as it did me.

On Being Brought From Africa to America

Twas mercy brought me from my Pagan land,
Taught my benighted soul to understand
    That there’s a God, that there’s a Saviour too:
Once I redemption neither sought nor knew.
Some view our sable race with scornful eye,
“Their colour is a diabolic die.”
Remember, Christians, Negros, black as Cain,
May be refin’d and join th’angelic train. (Phillis Wheatley)

I have probably misused the word “articulate” as I did not hear her speak. What I am referring to is, her vocabulary skills.

This man has to publish a book for tenure and he has done none of this. He is a baby demanding he get tenure or I am going t starve myself. Well I say let him starve if that; is what he wants to do. His other teachers and students graded him average and that is not a passing grade for tenure.
I was a teacher and I was glad I had the job as I could pay my bills and buy food etc. When I was in college we graded our teachers and we could sign the form or not. I was ok with that. I gave most of my teachers a wonderful report and one got the highest marks I could give him. He found out that I was reading backwards. He taught me how to read on his own time.

I live in PA and tom wolf is a wuss now worth the power to blow him up
