Either get on board the “Trump Train” — or prepare to be run over by it!
That seems to be the message Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has for Republicans holdouts. The brash billionaire has begun openly taunting the leaders of his own party by refusing to endorse House Speaker Paul Ryan of Wisconsin and Sen. John McCain of Arizona in their GOP primaries.
Trump’s stunning slap at two of the nation’s most prominent Republicans dramatically escalated GOP turmoil barely a week after a convention intended to promote party unity. With the general election campaign now squarely underway, Republicans found themselves once again forced to answer questions about the latest boundary-defying pronouncement from Trump at a moment when most would rather be talking about Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s record.
Trump made his declarations in an interview with The Washington Post in which he also lit into New Hampshire GOP Sen. Kelly Ayotte. All three lawmakers are facing primary challenges from the right in coming weeks, and each has vocally criticized Trump’s attacks on the Muslim parents of an Army captain killed in Iraq.
Trump’s rebuke to Ryan carried particular derision.
“I’m just not there yet,” Trump said, closely echoing Ryan’s own demurral before eventually endorsing Trump, when he told CNN on May 6, “I’m not there right now.”
“I like Paul, but these are horrible times for our country. We need very strong leadership. We need very, very strong leadership. And I’m just not quite there yet,” Trump told the Post, claiming that Ryan had asked for his support
Trump then offered praise for Ryan’s longshot opponent, Paul Nehlen, for running “a very good campaign.”
It was the verbal equivalent of a body slam.
Of McCain, whom he’d previously criticized for being taken captive in Vietnam, Trump said: “I’ve never been there with John McCain because I’ve always felt that he should have done a much better job for the vets.”
And bringing up Ayotte: “I don’t know Kelly Ayotte. I know she’s given me no support – zero support – and yet I’m leading her in the polls. I’m doing very well in New Hampshire. We need loyal people in this country. We need fighters in this country. We don’t need weak people.”
Trump’s comments appeared to represent the most dramatic break yet with a Republican establishment whose support for their presidential nominee has been reluctant at it’s best — and downright hostile at it’s worst. It came on the same day that President Barack Obama questioned why McCain, Ryan and other GOP leaders continued to support Trump.
McCain had been particularly incensed over Trump’s insults against the parents of U.S. Army Capt. Humayun Khan, chiding Trump’s decision to “defame those who are the best among us.”
Yet it was not clear that, even as Trump found another line to cross and another political norm to defy, any Republicans would rescind their support. None did so publicly and aides to both Ryan and Ayotte made clear their plans hadn’t changed. McCain met privately Tuesday night with Trump’s vice presidential running mate, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence.
For his part, Trump sent a Twitter post from @realDonaldTrump early Wednesday proclaiming, “There is greater unity in my campaign, perhaps greater than ever before.”
For Republicans, renouncing Trump might not yield much benefit beyond ensuring more headlines connecting them to Trump, something most want to avoid. Instead, vulnerable Senate Republicans like Ayotte and McCain are trying to focus on running their own races and hoping voters will make a distinction between them and Trump.
“I call it like I see it, and I’m always going to stand up for our military families and what’s best for the people of New Hampshire,” was all Ayotte would say.

That said, i believe he should choose his battles and opponents far more wisely. A statesman does not have to counterattack quite so hard. He should perhaps study the famous battles between Disraeli and Gladstone. One famous exchange involved Gladstone accusing Disraeli of something(forgot what), to which Disraeli replied “That depends on whether i embrace your morals – or your mistress!” Gladstone was made a laughing-stock.

Turns out that McCain was the driving force behind DENYING that ANY POW/MIA’s were in Vietnam after the “end” of the war in 1974.
In 2003, i believe it was, researchers in the former Soviet Union found docs from a Vietnamese general who said there were 1106 POW’s in Vietnam, but that they were only releasing 519 in order to have leverage to force the US to pay reparations, somewhere in the range of 3-4 billion.
McCain didn’t want to hear about that info or any other, including satellite photos of pilot’s secret codes tramped out in grass or marked out with logs or even transmitted from US devices planted along the Ho Chi Minh trail; every time someone wanted to say “Hey! These are OUR GUYS!” another “analyst” would be brought in to say “This is just vegetation and shadows.” When the NSA pulled out of Laos, they trained guys to operate the SIGINT behind, yet when they reported transmissions from POW’s, suddenly this info was not to be trusted because they were “third party reporters.”

Let me repeat what I said in a comment to another story, since it is clear that most candidates should be distgancing themselves from Trump and hoping that he will not endorse them:
You people need to think about what is going on.
– Trump decided to run after he had a conversation with a golfing buddy named Bill Clinton
– Trump got the nomination because Democrats and “independents” crossed over to vote for him in the primaries
– Trump goes out of his way to lie when the truth would be more helpful and to make comments designed to alienate moderate voters
– Trump has a history of giving money to politicians so he can get favors (and think of the favors Hillary Clinton will owe him now)
-Trump has told you over and over that the election is “rigged” (he just hasn’t admitted yet that he is part of the rigging)
The only possible conclusions are that Trump is either pretending to seek the presidency so Clinton will have the one opponent she could beat, or Trump is really as insane as he appears. Either way, the Republicans have to move as far away from him as they can (consider Rule 9 of the Rules of the Republican Party); and if it really is a psychological problem, they need to assist Trump in getting help. As things are now, Clinton could be indicted tomorrow and she would still beat Trump in a landslide.
Trump is too much of an egotist to run for office to deliberately lose. He is not in it to help Hillary win. Your second possible conclusion is probably more on target: Trump is rreally as insane as he appears (and acts). Actually, it may not go as far as insanity – it seems more of a severe personality disorder than certifiable insanity. But, then again, its early. Let’s give him a little more time and then I think it will be time to break out the white coats that don’t button in the front.

Someone like Bill Clinton would not suggest that anyone run as a REPUBLICAN unless doing so would benefit Hillary’s chances; but Trump could very well have overlooked that because of his serious Attention Seeking Syndrome. There is no doubt that many Democrats and liberal independents voted for Trump in the primaries because they thought he would make a weak challenger to Clinton, but that was probably not a conspiracy to which Trump was a party. Those voters came up with the idea themselves and it was again Trump’s Attention Seeking Syndrome that made him believe that he had become a viable candidate. I mean, he said things like he could shoot someone and people would still support him. That kind of statement is not only seriously deranged, it insults the intelligence and integrity of everyone who was really supporting him.
Trump’s actions and statements since winning the nomination are more troubling. Everything he has said and done have hurt any hope there ever was that he could win. It is not a huge step from there to where he might hurt himself physically. If he is not part of a conspiracy to elect Hillary (and let’s give him the benefit of the doubt and say he is not consciously doing that), his Attention Seeking Syndrome is rapidly turning into a full psychosis. His question about why the Mother (who showed no expression) “didn’t speak” I understood that was directed at his suspicions that Hillary’s had scripted the Father’s speech as an attack on Trump ( which it was) & had the Mother appear in headdress to make the point “this is a Islam compliant couple” (who’s son died in line of duty way back in 2004, ironically by car bomb in Iraq, before radical Ideology was used to surprise attack & murder civilians in the West.) Trump did say he felt deeply for the loss of Mr Khan’s son, a US captain. But tried to explain he felt the Father’s scathing & false attack on Trump was a scripted Hillary dirty -maneuver to deflect attention from the very raw pain and anger of betrayal the Mother who lost her beloved son needlessly in Bengazzi directly due to Hillary’s failures & inaction, carelessness as Sec. of State to do her job and then she lied, lied, lied directly. to the Families & all of the US… when Trump tried to express making that point, he fell into the Trap and yep focus on Hillary’s Bengazzi betrayal & disregard and pain & suffering she caused shifted into this sidetrack BS. And perhaps he made it worse when he discussed all the terrorist attacks, but he wasn’t connecting this to the couple’s son or his 2004 death, in any way shape or form, but attempting to clarify that contrary to what Khan said he (Trump) has read and respects the Constitution, has never said he would bar any particular US citizen from serving this county, let alone if he had been president in 2004 would have singled out their son. …Should have ended there. Trump then went on trying to convey that Radicalized Islamic Ideology is creating the terrorists who are the enemy and yea he wants to ban immigration of Islamic State citizens and those susceptible to the Ideology during the war with terrorism at least until there’s means to effectively screen. Safty and protection of USA first. That is his platform. So yea this stupid sideways off point snowball seems totally twisted nonsense.

Trump is controversial for sure. He has a big ego. Stupid things fall out of his mouth. I’m always cringing when he makes a speech. But I like him. He has upset democrats and republicans. I don’t think an intervention is an answer to his behavior. I still would rather see a (say what you mean) kind of guy in the WH rather than a known liar, cheat, killer, rapist, and evil she devil. I could be wrong. I guess only time will tell.
I’ll take a candidate who calls a spade a spade, even if the Queen of hearts and her court don’t like it!!!

Wow. Trump said the soldier was a hero. But then it came out that the father who spoke at the DNC May have ulterior motives connected with his job. Why don’t the parents complain with such forcefulness against radical Muslims who are murdering Christians and infiltrating our country?! What is it about Muslims in America who complain against trump trying to protect us from murderous radical Muslims, and yet do nothing to dissuade the terrible horrible disgusting actions of radical Muslims? If they are so lily white good, they should be afraid of the radical Muslims too! Are they really in cahoots and want sharia law in America, which would completely destroy our freedoms and our country?!
Now that he has the GOP nomination Trump should show a little more restraint in his behavior. It is OK to point out the flaws of the opposing candidate. Especially when those flaws can be demonstrated facts and previous performance failures. It is not necessary to respond to critics within the GOP. They will not sway any of Trump’s supporters. The only ones who will listen to these critics are the ones who don’t like Trump in the first place. If Trump is elected he can deal with those critics later. Trump has been called a pathological liar but who are the current president and vice-president of the liars club? That would be Obama and Hillary. When it comes to lying they are champions and Trump is hardly in their league. Ironically Obama has declared that Trump is not fit to be President. Not fit by whose standard? And specifically in what way not fit? Is it because he has not previously been elected to public office or spent years as a politician living off the backs of the people? What political office and how much political experience did George Washington have before he became President? Now some are claiming that Trump is insane. But what criteria are they using for this nonsense? If Trump is insane then Hillary and Obama are clearly delusional. It would appear that people can not discuss real issues like the deficit and budget or energy independence or national security so they resort to personal attacks.
Let’s pray that a more reserved Mike Pence will counsel Trump to not overreact to jabs by the Demo/Socialist media and “crooked” Hillary. The Demos intent is to find anything that the leftist media can throw against Trump over any statement he makes, hoping to derail his Presidential candidacy. Trump has the right to defend himself against someone’s assault on his judgments, but he must use wisdom in his rebuttals–or all the liberals will jump all over him at anything they can!

Probably, no one will read this, but i learned yesterday that Trump endorsed both McCain AND Ryan for re-election.
i hope his heart wasn’t in it, that he just bowed to political pressure…but i also hope that he’s secretly pulling for their opponents(and/or sending them dough/advice).
