American singer and songwriter Oliver Tree, 32, was killed Sunday morning when two helicopters collided mid-air over Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, claiming the lives of all six people aboard both aircraft.
One helicopter crashed into the parking lot of an electric vehicle dealership and exploded on impact. The resulting fire consumed roughly 20 cars. The second helicopter crashed into the ground inverted, landing with its landing gear facing upward.
Rio de Janeiro’s Civil Police confirmed that all six people aboard both helicopters were killed and that the bodies could not yet be individually identified. Oliver Tree appeared on the passenger manifest submitted to aviation authorities. Argentine YouTuber Gaspar Prim Díaz, 23, known online as Gaspi, was also confirmed dead by Argentine streaming channel Blender.
“It was terrifying, absolutely horrifying,” tire repair worker Fernandes de Freitas told reporters. He said he saw one helicopter already in flames when he noticed a passenger jump from the second aircraft before it hit the ground.
