Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s bonkers 1965 claim goes viral

Ask progressive darling Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) when our country’s democracy began and she’ll tell you it happened in 1965… not 1776.

Yes, AOC believes our Founding Fathers had nothing to do with our country’s history.

AOC revealed her unique perspective on history during a podcast hosted by comedian Ilana Glazer released Thursday, essentially spitting in the face of our country’s forefathers.

“There are very few, like, real archetypes of, in my opinion, truly, what America is all about. I think about the Civil Rights and voting rights movement, and how black Americans really created democracy in this country,” Ocasio-Cortez told Glazer.

“That’s right, that’s exactly right,” Glazer interjected.

“How they [black Americans] literally made something from nothing. It is just beyond me. I think about how, like, native people have survived and preserved and, and, treasured their culture. I think about, and, I think many of us think about immigrants. Which, if you aren’t from one of those first two populations, you are certainly from, largely, the third.”

“And, so many of us, like, have our story of our parents, our grandparents, our great-great-grandparents, and so on and so forth … who, like, come and make something from nothing. And I think that’s a big part of also the most inspiring elements of what America is all about.”

In other words, American democracy only occurred AFTER the civil rights era of 1965 — at least according to AOC.

Take a listen —

The civil rights era was a critical point in U.S. history and certainly rewrote history for the good, thanks to the passage of the landmark Voting Rights Act, signed on August 6, 1965, by President Lyndon B. Johnson.

This legislation aimed to enforce the 15th Amendment, eliminating literacy tests, poll taxes, and discriminatory practices that prevented Black Americans in the South from voting.

However, to claim that this was the start of democracy in the United States is absolutely wild.

For starters, she completely forgot about the Constitution or the Bill of Rights as the focal points for shaping American governance.

There are also pre-Revolutionary War figures like William Penn, the founder of Pennsylvania and signer of the colony’s “Charter of Privileges,” which carved out protections for civil liberties.

AOC’s unhinged rant towards American democracy wasn’t the only thing she touched on during Glazer’s podcast yesterday.

In a predictable fashion, the far-left lawmaker railed on the wealthy, even claiming that having a “billion” dollars was a myth… and if you did, you are a crook.

“You can’t earn a billion dollars. You just can’t earn that,” the Bronx and Queens rep told comedian Ilana Glazer on Thursday on the latter’s podcast, “It’s Open.” “You can get market power, you can break rules, you can do all sorts of things.

“You can abuse labor laws, you can pay people less than what they’re worth. But you can’t earn that, right? And so you have to create a myth that — since you didn’t earn that, you have to create a myth of earning it.”

AOC doubled down in a post on X Thursday evening, writing: “The single largest form of theft in America is wage theft. $50 billion a year are stolen from American workers … Some people get enraged that I draw attention to this. That’s on them. Let them call me shrill, dumb, inexperienced, girly, uneducated – these folks will say anything to distract from or undercut the truth that working people are getting screwed, and giving people a fair shake means we must have a grown conversation about reigning [sic] in abuse of power.”

If a billionaire amasses their wealth by underpaying their full-time workers so severely that they must rely on food assistance and government programs to survive,… https://t.co/fH9pBZbpSa
